In the last couple of months, I've read and reviewed several relatively short WordPress guidebooks that are available on Amazon. What I found, to my surprise, was that a number of them didn't actually give people much guidance in using WordPress and creating a website or blog and posting content. Fortunately, Jack Davies and Sarah Wiley's "WordPress Made Super Simple" is a genuine honest-to-goodness guidebook. Setting up a decent looking website from scratch isn't something you can do in five minutes or an hour, but I think that a novice who first reads this book then keeps it handy as a reference source can probably be up and running in less than a day.

Davies' guidebook covers pretty much all the basics, including some things that others might not think of, such as coming up with the best name for the website, including various alternatives if the "best" choice is taken. He then briefly covers the mechanics of registering a domain and selecting a host. Unlike some authors, Davies gives three hosting alternatives and mentions that others are available. Although these administrative details often take up half or more of some guidebooks, they only take up less than 1/4 of "Super Simple."

Davies then explains the basic nomenclature, such as the difference between pages and posts and between categories and tags. as well as widgets, plugins, and themes. He also explains the dashboard in detail, going over the various menu options on the dashboard, what they mean, and how to make various selections and changes. Using this guidebook as a reference, a beginner should be able to go down the dashboard, line by line and figure out the best way to tweak his site to get it to look the way he wants.

I guess I was one of those people struggling with WordPress. This book gave me easy to follow directions to make some changes on one of my blogs this morning. Instantly, I improved my blog! Now I will be adding the plugins he recommended on the others. I put this in my favorites on my Kindle as I can see that I will be referring back to it often while I am working on my WordPress blogs. Thank you for the simple directions that actually work! I have read other WordPress books that never seemed to help, or explained how to do something simply, for someone who is not a programmer can understand. Thank you for writing this book!

This is an excellent WordPress "starter" book. Well written. Nicely formatted too. All the basics are explained in a simple, easily understood manner.

Ideal for anyone wanting to get a WordPress site up and running without needing to learn coding or have a dictionary nearby in order to understand the technical mambo-jumbo - there is none in this book!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for first-timers and anyone who may be or has been struggling to get any WordPress blog up and running.

This is a well written crash course for anyone who wants to get a WordPress site up and running without any coding knowledge. It's targeted towards non-technical types and while you might need at least some cursory knowledge of what a blog is, following the steps it outlines will definitely leave you with a basic site in a fairly short amount of time.

The book focuses on the essential basics:

- Why you need a site and why you should pick WordPress (and you should)
- Hosting, domain names and installation
- Setting up the pages, posts, widgets and plugins to get the site running

This is short ebook and a fast read. While it doesn't cover everything in the granular detail of Dummies guide, for instance, it's also more up to date and a fraction of a price. The best way to really learn WordPress is to start using it but the authors do an admirable job of getting the new user through all the major initial hurdles.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary review copy of this book.

Well structured and covers everything from background information, to how to get started, to how to make WordPress work around what you need, to ways to add content. Very complete and well laid out.

If you looking for up to date beginner level information this book is for you. Following this book I ended up with a very professional looking blog and feel very comfortable handling it.

I highly recommend it.

This book is well organized and got to the information I needed quickly. It helped a Word Press novice like myself understand confusing information quickly.

My last website was crudely made and underperformed every month so I scrapped it. As a retired person on a limited income I wanted to build a new site that could afford me a small extra income that in time could make a lot of money. I have read every book on Kindle that I could on Wordpress and SEO. This book has it all from the bottom up and has been a very useful source of info. From all the books I've read there seems to be a wide disparity about which web host one should trust. Aside from that one problem this book has answered all of my questions. I only gave the book four stars since nothing is ever perfect.
