Excellent but be Wordly Wise!, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
This is an excellent series which I've used for all my homeschooling children. No matter what their ability was at the time, by the end of each book they were able to use words effectively and decode the meaning of other words they hadn't learned through knowing what other similar words meant.
One note of caution: Book 4 is NOT necessarily for fourth graders. The EPS website lists this as a 7th grade book. Most of the sellers on Amazon have listed the numbered books as if this was the recommended grade level for each. Check the original website and look at the sample pages before ordering.

Suggestions, August 1, 2010
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
At levels 2 & 3 the answer keys are time saving but optional. At levels 4-12 I would not be without them. At level 4 you move up to 20 lessons/book. There is a significant difficulty increase.
Wordly Wise 3000, 2nd Edition is our top pick for a vocabulary program when you place a student at a level that is appropriate for the child. Although the words are chosen from grade level texts for the first meaning of the word, what they do with them is challenging. They work the multiple meanings of the word. They will work with synonyms and antonyms and analogies. In one multiple choice section, anywhere from one to four choices may be correct, using one or more meanings of the word. The questions for the reading comprehension section are challenging and often require a good deal of thought.
We suggest that Monday you go to [...] and listen as they pronounce through the word list, meanings, and example sentences. Then do sections A and B. On Tuesday, do sections C and D. On Wednesday, read the section E comprehension passage and answer the first half of the questions. On Thursday, reread the passage and finish the questions. On Friday, make any necessary corrections. We expect students to get 100% before they are done. Your score for the week is the average of all the attempts it takes to get you there. Why perfect? So much learning takes place in the correction process.
You are not done with these words. They will be used repeatedly in future lessons as synonyms, antonyms and in analogies. At [...], there are FREE fun games to review the words after every 4 -5 chapters. Play these on Friday. Optional multiple choice tests are available, for purchase, but the games are a lot more fun way to use your time.

Misleading series book numbers, March 5, 2011
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
My kids like Wordly Wise and have completed the orginal edition books 1 through 4. We ordered the REVISED (Second) edition books 5 and 6. Surprisingly we found that the new edition book 5 is the same as the orginal edition book 2. The new edition book 6 is the same as the original book 3. We wish the publisher had alerted the readers about that they have changed the numbering system.
