4.0 out of 5 stars Review of the actual material
Yes, Wordly Wise requires instructor materials. I appreciate being able to purchase the workbooks on Amazon, as they are less expensive than the ones on the publisher's website. While I also enjoy First Language Lessons (or perhaps the other reviewer was referring to The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading) and Writing With Ease, I don't feel a comparison can be...

1.0 out of 5 stars hopeless unless you have the teacher resource book
I bought this and I don't know how I am going to use it because I don't have the teacher resource book. It is way too costly to buy so I am going to have to make up my own stories that go with the lessons or give this book away. I wish I had known beforehand that I needed an accompanying book to go with the lesson book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, December 26, 2009

This book is completely useless without the teacher resource package (which is sold for more than US$200). Don't buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of the actual material, February 23, 2011

Yes, Wordly Wise requires instructor materials. I appreciate being able to purchase the workbooks on Amazon, as they are less expensive than the ones on the publisher's website. While I also enjoy First Language Lessons (or perhaps the other reviewer was referring to The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading) and Writing With Ease, I don't feel a comparison can be accurately drawn. Wordly Wise is a vocabulary building curriculum, while FLL is a grammar curriculum, OPGTR is a reading curriculum, and WWE is a writing curriculum. Taking those things into consideration, I feel Wordly Wise does exactly what it purports to do. My children love WW3000. In my opinion, it takes a potentially mind-numbing pursuit, and makes it fun.

I was looking forward to the receipt of this item and was quickly disappointed when I received it. While the concept of sequential, vocabulary development seems great, this workbook is useless without the teacher manual. I think it should be advertised that the manual needs to accompany the workbook.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT like the rest of the books in series, May 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000: Book 1 Systematic, Sequential Vocabulary Development (Paperback)
I had been skeptical after reading the reviews but I saw a Book 3 at the local bookstore so I thought it must have been a different edition or something like that. I ordered this book along with Book 2 and Book 4. THIS BOOK IS NOT THE SAME AS THE OTHERS!! It is completely useless to you without a teacher manual for anything other than a word list. I am returning it because it is completely unhelpful to me. HOWEVER starting with Book 2, the format is completely different and a teachers manual is in no way required. I encourage you to take a look at the series but forget this particular book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000: Book 1 Systematic, Sequential Vocabulary Development (Paperback)
I have to echo everyone else's sentiments-- this book is completely useless without the teacher's resource package, which is far too expensive! I am so disappointed, as Wordly Wise books have been wonderful in the past. The upper grade books don't require anything but the student book, so I don't know why they wouldn't have written this one in the same manner.

I agree that it should be mentioned in the seller's review that this is not a stand-alone textbook. Confusing since the other WW are fine by thenselves. I'm glad I didn't pay too much for the book, but it was still a waste of valuable money!

CAN'T USE W/O TEACHER RESOURCE BOOK. What a disappointment, no noting of that important detail in the purchase; we use the upper level Wordly Wise for my older kids and love them, so my first grader was disappointed not to get started on her own level of workbooks. Feel ripped off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Program to Teach Vocabulary, October 8, 2011
By
James Winkley (Potomac, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wordly Wise 3000: Book 1 Systematic, Sequential Vocabulary Development (Paperback)
I taught this program to my daughter when she was in first grade. My son, who is two years younger, sat in. They both really enjoyed it. The stories are cute. The vocabulary cards are colorful and sturdy. If you have a child who struggles to learn new words, this is a great program. For the average kid, I don't think it is necessary or worth the time and expense because most of the words would be learned without using it.

You absolutely need the teacher guide. You cannot use this program without it. It is completely different from the other Wordly Wise books except Grade K, but that is what makes it work for kids this young. It is fun and engaging and does not require reading.

I think I should have read into other reviews on this site and ignores this book. But my kids enjoyed Book2 so much and I ordered this Book 1. It is totally different style and completely useless.

I almost immediately switched to the "reading with ease" and the "writing with ease" curriculum from Jessie Wise Bauer. MUCH much better!!!! I just felt like Wordly wise was fluff work without much merit. Not to mention "wordly" isn't even a word, so why would you use that program to teach your children words? What was I thinking?
The "with ease" books really lay out rules and functions much better.
Defiantly skip wordly wise.
