Book Description

March 1987
Labeled illustrations present 100 words about transportation, arranged by concepts such as "In the Water," "In Distant Lands," and "In an Emergency."

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

All 100 words in this volume are themselves modes of transportation, set forth in groupings such as "On My Own Two Feet" (walk, run, hop, crawl), "By Myself" (skateboard, tricycle), "In the City," "In the Water," "In Space," etc. By moving from child-size transports to large and loftier forms, and on to specialized vehicles found in emergency situations (an ambulance and a fire engine), and ending with machines found in an amusement park (a merry-go-round is considered transportation in this context), the organization of this story doesn't convey the information in a clear, efficient way. Brown packs each page with relentlessly cheerful people and a lot of activity for readers to pore over. Still, these 100 words won't take the place of Anne Rockwell's Things That Go. Ages 2-5.
