For Prizefight, words do mean something, November 26, 2004
This review is from: Words Don't Mean Anything (Audio CD)
The Prizefight is a band native to Bucks County, PA. I happened to go to the same high school as Ryan, and have seen Prizefight live in concert at the Trocadero in Philadelphia.
To write off the Prizefight as simply another punk band, based on their debut EP, would be foolish. Their sound is anything but amateur, sounding as if they were born cranking out these tracks. A certain rawness still penetrates through each of the tracks, however, especially through the unique horn addition present throughout "The Trainwreck".
Prizefight has since purged itself of its horn section, which I think spells demise for their future in the music world, as the horns in this EP really help the band define itself as a classy deviation from the standard punk band prototype. Whether or not future albums from the band will be as lyrically and musically solid remains to be seen, but "Words Don't Mean Anything" is worth the cash, as Prizefight is probably the most unique of all other current rock/punk bands in the mainstream music venue.
