Comparable to Proverbs,

This review is from: The Words of Gandhi (Newmarket words of... series) (Hardcover)
It is like the Book of Proverbs in the Bible. Gandhi's seemingly superhuman insight on virtue is indeed deeply moving. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to hear many of the words of the wisest.

Inspiring,
This review is from: The Words of Gandhi (Paperback)
This book is short and sweet (the quotes are spaced out on the pages and they include photographs). This was informative of areas Ghandi does not talk of much in his autobiography, especially his views on non-violence. Inspiring quotes that get you thinking.

"Chosen Words of Gandhi',

This review is from: The Words of Gandhi: Second Edition (Newmarket "Words Of" Series) (Hardcover)
The book from Richard Attenborough of quotes from Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi-(Mahatma Gandhi)contain many of his quotes which were chosen by the editor, Richard Attenborough but it is self serving and biased for a few reasons. Mr. Attenborough is English, was made "Commander of the Order of the British Empire" in 1967 & was Knighted in 1976 all for England. The problem I find is that even though Mr. Attenborough made over 80 films and had many achievements, Gandhi starved and suffered for India's independence from England. A quote which is a startling one from Gandhi is about "Civil Disobedience" & reads "Nonviolence is infinitely superior to violence. But the message of nonviolence is for those who know how to die-not for those who are afraid of death. If one has not that courage, I want him to cultivate the art of killing and being killed, rather than in a cowardly manner to flee from danger." This quote from Gandhi was hung on the wall of Bruce Lee's gym! Remember that England oppressed India and that is where Richard Attenborough, being a Knight and a "Commander of the British Empire" has a conflict of interest. Mr. Attenborough directed the film "Gandhi" and won an award for the film but his chosen quotes leave out the interesting one's. An example is the quote about civil disobedience. Representing "The "British Empire" and representing Gandhi is ironic in my opinion. Most of the quotes from Gandhi that are used in Mr. Attenborough's book are lily white compared to the strife that Gandhi has suffered for India's independence from Great Briton & the book should have been titled-"Quotes from Gandhi that England tolerated"-Craig Barr.
