5.0 out of 5 stars you are late
listen, if you are trying to enjoy this album and you are not in your 30's, then forget about it. if you did not cop this album in 1991, forget about it. you will not understand. i read some clown say the beats are old, the music is not this it is not that.......but for east coast 1991, the music was what it was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius rips it up, June 15, 2000
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
I had to buy this CD when I first heard of it because I loved Liquid Swords and enjoyed Beneath the Surface. This CD is not like his others though and has an old school approach with straight hip-hop.

At first I didn't like the CD and found the beats annoying, but it slowly grew on me. I immediately liked Pass the Bone, which has a guest appearance by the RZA (Prince Rakeem then). This is a great CD though and gives a little change of pace from his other CDs. Life of a Drug Dealer, The Genius is Slammin and Living Foul are also great tracks. For some GZA that's a little different, order this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tha Genius is Slammin.., April 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
This album is hip-hop. Its not Wu-Tang Clan or anything it is pure hip-hop in full effect. The Genius brings phat tracks and beats. If only this had been a successful CD it would be nationally know but Gza's AnRs and Promotion peoples didn't promote the album very well. The cuts on this album makes the Genius' name pretty self-explanatory. If your into "Wu-Tang Forever" or comercial 'rap' music, you won't like this. If you like hip-hop old school and new you will love this album. This is one hot L.P.

5.0 out of 5 stars GZA at his FINEST, hip-hop in it's RAW essense!!!, February 19, 1999
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
After hearing Liquid Swords {GZA's second cd} 1000 times, I needed some new GZA material. I couldn't find "Words" anywhere but here! It satisified my desire for new or old GZA material, with raw tracks like Pass the Bone and Life of a Drug Dealer. If you like GZA, you'll love this cd. But DO NOT expect the Wu-Tang sound on this album! It was not produced by RZA and does not sound like 36 chambers or Forever albums. It is raw, rugged hip-hop in it's finest hour! Pick this cd up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Proper Lyrics, before his time., April 11, 2002
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
This album is from 1991 so don't expect to put it in and expeiriece fresh Rza beats because you won't. The closest you'll get to a Wu tang beat will be on the first track, 'Pass The Bone'. The beats are repetative and the tunes are funky old school [stuff], but the lyrics make up for every bad beat and fuzzy loop. The Genius was the only rapper in the industry in the early 90's that was actually aware of the drug and prostitution problems in america. These lyrics are before his time and frightened people who listened to them. Despite that, it's still not as good as his masterpeice 'Liquid Swords', but comes pretty close. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars STAY OUT OF BARS, May 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
Despite its age, Words from the Genius has to be one of the best solo Wu albums. Stay out of bars has to be the funniest wu tang song ever, life of a drug dealer is dark and witty, the genius is slammin is a straight Wu banga. The beats are a little old, but still classy. The lyrics are as good as anything on liquid swords, only with a more lighthearted, old school flavor. If your a wu fan u gotta own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Genius, October 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Words From the Genius (Audio CD)
GZA is not called the Genius for no reason. This album (His first solo release)Is amazing. Some of GZAs best work lyrically. The whole of the album has the 'old skool' feel to it. Gza is a genius, A must buy!
