4.0 out of 5 stars we just got this
My daughter is four years old and we just got this book. It seems to be only so-so for teaching sight words, but I'm giving it four stars because it's the best thing I've found on the market.

I want to let you know that the older version of "100 words" that Scholastic publishes is not a workbook...it is a resource book for teachers, so it has fewer pages...

My daughter is four years old and we just got this book. It seems to be only so-so for teaching sight words, but I'm giving it four stars because it's the best thing I've found on the market.

I want to let you know that the older version of "100 words" that Scholastic publishes is not a workbook...it is a resource book for teachers, so it has fewer pages. Initially, I was confused about that and ordered the older version by mistake.

Update: When we finished this book, we moved on to the next book in the series... "2nd Grade," but it just wasn't as relevant developmentally.

My son, who is in Kindergarten, has just finished this workbook. He loved it, we are now moving to the 2nd grade book. He is now a very confident beginning reader. I love this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars first word book, August 6, 2005
This review is from: 100 Words Kids Need To Read by 1st Grade (Paperback)
My son likes this book very much. It collects 100 basic sight-words and provides vivid exercises for them. Kids remember those words forever after the fun study. My son's interest is high and is eager to explore more. I hope the author had put more words and pages. To continue the learning, I find Beestar's weekly practice very nice (www.beestar.org). Its word challenges are just about right. My son is doing fairly well thanks to the nice start from this book. Highly recommended.

This is a very good mid-first grade book. There are a lot of pictures and stories to keep the kids interested, but it isn't too busy. This is also a really good review of kindergarten words. The book should be called,"100 Words kids need to read by the END of first grade".

This is an awesome book. We are using it for our 6 year old son, to help him learn in 1st grade. It is very helpful and his teacher is fully supporting this book, as it has many school like projects in it. You will not be disappointed.

We use this for homeschooling (they make it for different grades). The whole series of these books is great and kids like doing the pages. I think this is probably the best book out there for teaching kids new words and improving their reading skills.

My 5 year-old grandaughter is enjoying this book so much. She is racing through it. Her parents are homeschooling her so I sent this book to assist with her learning to read.

I brought this book to help my 7 year old learn the spelling of sight words. He already knows how to read these words through other books. In this book there are a lot of writing exercises with colorful pictures. There are also other activities, for example coloring and reading. The presentation is great for not only learning to read and write these words, but also how they are properly used. For example, boy and girl are presented together along with he and she. Has and goes are presented together. "The boy has a sled. He goes to the hill." Although I had originally purchased the book to teach my son to learn to read, I did not like it as much for that goal. Instead I used Dolch Sight Word Activities: Grade K-1, Volume 1 and Spectrum Dolch Sight Word Activities, Volume 2 (Spectrum Dolch).

This review is from: 100 Words Kids Need To Read by 1st Grade (Paperback)
I found this book very helpful during our summer to keep my kids active with work. The workbook is layed out nicely and is helping my children prepare for the upcoming school year. It is simple to use and has some fun activities. This is the second time I have purchased this book and I also got one for 3rd grade. Love it.

This review is from: 100 Words Kids Need To Read by 1st Grade (Paperback)
My six year old grandson is staying with me for the summer and we have school everyday unless we have something planned. He is really enjoying this book and learning new words. I hope to complete it by the end of the summer. We like the pictures in the book. It helps him stayed interested and focused.
