Format: Paperback
This edition brings together a number of essays by the greatest living master of English prose. Adventurer,
war hero, philhellene, Patrick Leigh Fermor is that rarest of creatures, a man of action as well as a man
of letters, an appreciator of solitude as well as a writer whose gift for friendship is legendary. This collection
will surely enchant the many admirers of Sir Paddy, who is unrivalled in the breadth of his curiosity and in
the baroque splendor of his imagination and his style.

When you're looking for a short read, thoughtfully written and likely to cause you to give more than a moment's consideratiion to the subject at hand, this is the book to pick up. This is a book of excerpts, bits and pieces taken here and there from Fermor's lengthier books but each bit enough to give the reader the full flavor of the likes of a person we come across all too infrequently. Contemporary reader's of Rory Stewart will appreciate what they find here as will those who enjoy looking back over the past century to study the political perturbances of the western European reorganization. Especially recommended for reader's using public transportation who look forward to something different for the ride to and/or from home.

This book is a wonderful read, like the other travel books by this author. He not only captures places and people vividly, but he writes in a easy style, I felt that we were old friends and he was describing his experiences to me.

The 20th Century 's greatest travel writer was also one of it's most extraordinary men . A decorated war hero with the British commandos in Crete in World War II , Patrick Leigh Fermor was at once an adventurer and man of letters. The essays in this volume constitute some of the finest writing in the second half of the 20 th century.

If Emily's "Book is a Frigate"; this book is a China Clipper. The educated prose is a joy to read late into the night with dreams of far away as close as your pillow.
