Great book for beginning printers,

I used this book with my first grader and would use it with younger child too. This book teaches accepted pencil strokes, spacing and proportions. There is practice with individual letters and numerals, before the text begins. We liked this book better than other handwriting books because the Psalms and Proverbs engage your thoughts, not just your writing hand. They are short enough to remember by the time you have worked with them for a week. Lesson One, for example, uses the verse "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good." The first three days, the practice is on single letters or words in the text. Then on days 4 and 5 your child writes the entire text. There are border sheets at the back of the book which need to be torn out (they are perforated) for use copying the full text. I would have liked the book better, if these border sheets were at the end of each lesson where you need them. Our loose sheets were hard to keep organized.

I wish I had realized that this book uses a paraphrase of the Bible for the "verses" the children are to practice writing. Sometimes the paraphrase that was offered was barely recognizable, compared to the actual wording of the "real" Bible.
I would have been much better off creating my own penmanship worksheets for free off the internet, using actual Bible verses. After this, I'm switching to CLP's penmanship books.
