5.0 out of 5 stars A great idea book!, April 19, 2011
This review is from: Words to the Rescue: The sentiment guide for the tongue tied. 1000 thoughtful things to write on the card when you don't have a clue. (Paperback)
Summary: If you are looking for a great little book to help you write extra-special notes to your friends, loved ones and co-workers on just about any occasion, this is a wonderful resource to have!

Full Review:

Have you ever found yourself wanting to write something meaningful to someone you care about, but had difficulty thinking of what to say? This is the book I have often wished for when trying to find the right words for special occasions and situations! Since I love being creative and I love saving money (Wow, greeting cards are expensive these days!), I often make homemade greeting cards or gift tags, but coming up with thoughtful messages to write inside is not always as easy.

This lovely little book is full of a thousand thoughtful things to say when you need ideas! Words to the Rescue includes messages for so many occasions: Birthdays, Congratulations, Anniversaries, Apology, Encouragement, Sympathy, Weddings, Thank Yous, Romance, and many many more... I like the fact that you can use the ideas word for word, tweak them to make them more personal, or just use them as inspiration to create your own. This pleasantly-designed little book would look great in a gift basket or makes a great gift with note cards or stationery and a pen or even card-making supplies for a crafty friend.

A few examples I love:

Anniversary: How much stinking happiness can one guy take?

Apology: I hope these flowers get me in the door/ 'cause what I did I won't do no more.

Birthday: To my down to earth buddy who's older than dirt.

New Home: Kick back and relax. You'll be making regular trips to the hardware store soon enough.

There are several sayings in this book that I personally would never use, but since all it takes is one and there are so many to choose from, you're sure to find something good. I also found myself wishing for more organizational sub-categories like in the card shop... for example: funny birthday, messages to children, how to write a thank-you for a gift you don't really like, etc... ;o)

Overall, if you are looking for a great little book to help you write extra-special notes to your friends, loved ones and co-workers on just about any occasion, this is a wonderful resource to have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone I know could use this book!, January 28, 2011
This review is from: Words to the Rescue: The sentiment guide for the tongue tied. 1000 thoughtful things to write on the card when you don't have a clue. (Paperback)
There are lots of times when I'm sending a sympathy card, for example, and I just find myself at a loss of words. I wish that the right inspirational, comforting words would come to mind, but often they don't. Words to the Rescue: The sentiment guide for the tongue tied is the solution to that frustration and offers lots of heartfelt suggestions to include with that special card and/or gift!

Here's what you'll find inside:

89 notes to encourage friends and family when they're down 50 idea starters to help you write a sympathy message

110 ways to say "happy birthday" to family and friends

69 ideas for apologies... with sincerity and wit

15 sentiments to congratulate the bride and groom

30 things you can jot on a new baby card

99 ways to express your thanks and gratitude

450 "Fast Phrases" to help cure your writer's block instantly

Here are a few examples of some of the sentiments I especially enjoy:

For a new home owner-"Everyone needs a peaceful retreat from the chaos of the world. Kudos on finding yours."

For the loss of a loved one-"May you be comforted in the light of love, today and during the tough road ahead."

For the graduate-"Getting your degree took dedication, hard work and get-up-and-go. I'm exhausted just thinking about it."

To thank a friend (my favorite one!)-"You're great. Who else can I tell I got a great deal on toilet paper and have them be happy for me?

This book makes an excellent gift, especially for Valentine's Day, for a loved one or even your child's teacher! It's also popular with scrapbookers, since there are so many quotes throughout the book. My favorite section of the book is Fast Phrases, with hundreds of phrases to inspire you! Did you make a New Year's resolution to diligently keep in contact with family and friends? Words to the Rescue can help with that! Author, Steve Fadie, suggests, "it's smart to keep several on hand for unexpected small gift occasions. Pair this book with a set of note cards and a pen and you've got quite a masterpiece."
