5.0 out of 5 stars Informative Perspectives, February 28, 2001

This review is from: Words From Those Who Care: Further Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism (Paperback)
As the parent of an autistic child, I found this book to be an invaluable source of information, support, and comfort. To put it simply, this book gets to the heart of our children's everyday struggles in a real way. Drawing it's strength from numerous contributors, the case studies allow the reader to study different treatment plans in action and gain a well-rounded view of ABA. In each case study, I was able to find strategies that I could utilize to help my child attain her goals. What more could I ask for? I thought the book was terrific and I highly recommend it!! Another job well done!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Collection!, December 16, 2000

This review is from: Words From Those Who Care: Further Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism (Paperback)
My 2 year old son was diagnosed with PDD in Feb of 2000, he has been receiving a FULL (30 hours a week) Applied Behavior Analysis approach . He has come so far , his speech is emerging, his relatedness has improved dramitically, I HAVE FINALLY gotten my son back from the depths of his secret world. I believe in ABA and the "miracles" that can come from it when teamed with a good ABA teaching team. This book is a wonderful collection of the different techniques that therapists have used to help the approach work. Every child is different and there's not ONE WAY to teach every child. It is the basis & teaching method of the ABA approach that works. It is THE foundation of what works well with children like my son. I have been blessed with the findings and the open mindeness of this teaching method and this book helps me with new ideas to share with my son's teaching team, as well as give me hope that there is still so much that my son can accomplish all in due time. This book has wonderful accounts of everyday treatment methods that some of the therapist have used , so it would be a wonderful book for parents and therapists! For those who would like a "feel" and a more "hands on direct description" on how this teaching method works, I would reccommend this book. THANK YOU .. to the author of this book as well as all the Teachers and Therapist who had their entries published into this book. Your work is a miracle for my family.. and the efforts that you have put into these children has left an everlasting impression into my son and many other children's lives. We are forever grateful for your work. Agin I thank you and am forever grateful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise from a Direct Care Worker, September 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Words From Those Who Care: Further Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism (Paperback)
Joy, Sadness, Frustration, Love...there are not enough words to describe the emotions I go through on a daily basis. It is so refreshing to finally read something from MY point of view.

These case studies reflect my life. This is what I do and how we do it. The book is refreshingly honest with direct care workers point of views. A must read for anyone considering the field of ABA or even mildly interested.

The people are all different, but the point is always the same. it's always for the kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real World Talk about Autism, December 19, 2000

This review is from: Words From Those Who Care: Further Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism (Paperback)
It's so exciting to read what the direct care workers who spend their days working with autistic kids say! My son is in a school for autistic children - the entire staff surround him with love while they push him to learn and develop. ABA, the method Newman discusses, can seem cold and a little frightening when it's just words in a text or manual. To see it in action is to see why it works so well, and this book celebrates the love and caring that make ABA work. The passion in every chapter leaps off the page. It's inspiring, it's reassuring, it's the best description I've seen of ABA in daily use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instpiration to keep trying, December 30, 2007
This review is from: Words From Those Who Care: Further Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism (Paperback)
As a service provider for children diagnosed with Autism and PDD, this book is a source of inspiration. Words from Those Who Care reminds teachers and caregivers that the methods of ABA need time, persistance and constant re-evaluation. A great read for the lay person and those experienced in the field as a reminder of why we are doing what we do.
