Steven Whitehurst's "Words From An Unchained Mind" is a must read for everyone. The list of vital agencies and predominatly Black, Native American, Hispanic & Asian Colleges & Universities remains a constant resource for me in making recommendations to my students. The thought provoking prose demands attention. You cannot read this book and just walk away from it. The words paint a visual picture that forces one to react. My African American students that have read it, have gained new insight into their heritage and a renewed pride and interest in thier culture and history. The other ethnicities are moved to re-evaluate their biases and views on this historic race. Mr. Whitehurst's writing goes beyond the printed word and the reader is transformed into his world with all the emotion, feelings and depth of experience. At times you will feel his rage, his sorrow, his anguish and his pride. His book provides an open door into this rich culture for anyone who desires a deeper understanding of their history and values as well as their suffering. Every human alive, should read "We Africans" (on pages 45 & 46) if they read nothing else in this book. Once you've read it, you will understand. Don't pass up this book! It will enrich your life as well as your appreciation for the diversity in all of us.
