This book compiles the daily affirmations and words of wisdom of Rev Run (a.k.a. Joseph Simmons), a founding member of seminal rap group Run DMC who got serious about religion after the group parted ways. Shortly thereafter, he began writing and distributing daily advice on life to friends. As word spread about Run's words of wisdom, the list of those requesting his daily messages grew to be a who's who of CEOs, politicians, sports stars and music industry heavies. The wide appeal of Run's affirmations led to the publication of this book, a showcase of Run's impossibly optimistic outlook. There is no problem or experience that a positive attitude and a smile can't overcome. This is also the book's weakness, as the heavy reliance on positive thinking seems to give short shrift to the reality of suffering; If you dress sharp, smile and have a positive outlook, life will go your way. This message will appeal to some (like the successful, high-profile subscribers to Run's daily affirmation e-mail list), but for many, this too-simple worldview will seem like a one-dimensional pep talk. Fans of Run DMC and those looking for lighter self-help fare will find the book enjoyable, but those looking for a guide for improving their lives will be unsatisfied.

Reverend Run entered the public eye in 1983 as Run, leader of the pioneering rap trio Run-DMC. Since then, his accomplishments include becoming president of Phatfarm Footwear, CEO of Run Athletics, and star of the top-rated MTV show Run's House. Recently, he released his first solo album, Distortion, on RSMG, and directed the video for his first single, "Mind on the Road." More important, he is a minister at Zoe Ministries, founded by Bishop E. Bernard Jordan in 1983. Run now spends the majority of his time at church and building the foundations of his family.--This text refers to the Paperback edition.
