another gem, September 18, 2000
This review is from: Words of Wisdom (Audio CD)
The late Dennis Brown had a great string of albums through the late 70's and into the early 80's. A result of incredibly fruitful collaborations with Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson, Brown yielded the lps "Visions," "Wolf & Leopards," "Words of Wisdom," "So Long Rastafari," "Joseph's Coat of Many Colours," and "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow," all of which are roots reggae classics.
"Words of Wisdom" found Brown in great form, combining "message" songs ("Black Liberation," "Love Jah," "Rasta Children") with his unbelievable love songs,("Cassandra," "Ain't that loving You") complete with his trademark wailings that made him as popular as he was. Anchored by the minor hit "Money In My Pocket," the album is beautifully sculptured.
This is one of roots reggae's crowning achievements and comes very highly recommended.

MY FAVORITE DENNIS BROWN ALBUM, July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Words of Wisdom (Audio CD)
Words Of Wisdom is my favorite Dennis Brown collection. Produced by Joe Gibbs and backed by top musicians this is The Crown Prince of Reggae at his prime. Dennis Brown passed on July 1, 1999 but his legacy will live on through his music and some of his All Time Best is featured on this CD.

Great songs-not so great transfer to CD, March 10, 2002
This review is from: Words of Wisdom (Audio CD)
The songs on this album are excellent, and belong in anyone's reggae collection. Unfortunately, the CD transfer from Shanachie doesn't hold up well. I have the original vinyl record and wanted to get the CD. The CD version makes the horns and keyboards in particular sound "tinny" and wavering. I took the CD back and exchanged it for another, and it does the same thing. I'm keeping it because the songs are great, but I'm unhappy with the quality of the transfer. Does anyone else out there notice this on their CD???
