Book Description

October 20, 2000
George MacDonald said, "It is the heart that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in his presence." G.K. Chesterton said, "Solemnity flows out of us naturally but laughter is a leap." C.S. Lewis said, "Joy is the serious business of heaven."
This books is for people who enjoy the pleasure of playing with words and ideas. The 60 essays chosen for this collection run the gamut from cool-headed social satire to high-spirited human interest and warm-hearted inspiration. Some of the pieces gathered here appeared first in "The Christian Century," "Christianity Today," "Eternity," "The Wittenburg Door," "The Reformed Journal," "The Other Side" and the "Journal of Psychology and Theology."

Editorial Reviews

Review

Robert Darden, Editor, Wittenburg Door: "For years now, Kathryn Lindskoog has been that lone voice crying, 'Yo! Big guy! The emperor's "nekkid"!' She is funny. She is insightful. She is dangerous. And she is almost always right.

Ranelda Hunsicker, author: "Lindskoog's wit and wisdom tease the brain, tickle the funny bone, get under the skin, and go straight to the heart. Salty and sweet, sassy and sage, this book is worthy of high praise.

Virginia Hearn, professor, New College Berkeley: "Kathryn Lindskoog is delightful, uproariously funny, and oh so observant. Here we find poignant parables from a contemporary, amazingly productive Christian life.

Letha Dawson Scanzoni, author: "If she were a recording artist, this would be her "Greatest Hits" CD! Some essays were altogether new to me; others greeted me like old friends. Written in her inimitable style, this book cannot help but delight her readers.
