By A Customer
This review is from: The Work of Angels: Masterpieces of Celtic Metalwork, 6th-9th Centuries AD (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for any one who wants a serious and in depth look at the metal work created by the Celts from the 6th to the 9th century. Through this book one will discover the basis for many of the later designs found in the illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells.
Beautifully photograph, each picture shows knotworks, spirals, and other patterns created in silver, gold and other metals. Also discussed are the techinques and tools used by the artisans

Susan Youngs has done an excellent job of editing, bringing in some of the best minds in the field as contributors. Rapidly has become a leading resource for other researchers, and is now very often cited as a study source. Excellent scholarship throughout.
