5.0 out of 5 stars No-nonsense book of valuable resources for working at home, December 29, 2009
This review is from: Work at Home Now: The No-nonsense Guide to Finding Your Perfect Home-based Job, Avoiding Scams, and Making a Great Living (Paperback)
I've been a long-time fan of the authors' website, the RatRaceRebellion, and when I had an opportunity to read their newest book, I jumped on it. I've read lots of "work at home" books, and they all said basically the same things. Durst's and Haaren's new book doesn't dwell on the same old things that are in the other books; instead, it jumps right to the heart of what all new home-based workers want to know - where to find work. Not only do the authors list a multitude of websites offering work-at-home opportunities, they've checked out every one of the websites, plus they've organized the listing into job types (they've included categories such as "merchandiser" and "notary" that are more "work FROM home). They've even included a category of websites for work in the "adult" industry (if you're so inclined)!
The authors have also done a great job showing readers how to do effective Google and Craigslist searches for work, and they tell what to look for in order to avoid scams.
All in all, this is a very well-written and extremely well-organized book about how to find a good home-based job and avoid all the scams out there. I highly recommend it!

I bought "Work at Home Now" because I'm struggling with getting well after surgery and would love to make some money from home. Unfortunately, so would tons of other people. Work at home now has some useful tips at the beginning, like search phrases to use to avoid the scams, and how to spot legit opportunities. The most helpful sections show websites by job-type available. Note: Many of the websites listed require experience in a specific field. I have business clerical experience, and there aren't many jobs out there for people with my skill set. I have applied where I could, and have heard nothing. Also, many of the sites don't have positions open right now, and aren't likely to for some time. The long and the short of it? Borrow this book from a friend or the library. It's a good general reference, but you will likely only have about 10 places to which you can apply, and probably won't hear from them for the next year or two.

If you're looking to work at home, this is the book to get. i was lucky enough to win this book from a drawing. Not only is it well-written, it has valuable information to steer you in the right direction for finding a work at home job. Christine Durst and Michael Haaren are well-known for providing valuable information for spotting scams. They have a wonderful website with the same valuable information and more. The book tells you what to look for, and it also provides the legitimate work at home websites. They are also well-known for appearing on ABC News, 20/20 and CNN and alerting the public about scams. For years, they've helped alert the public and inform us that there are legitimate home based jobs out there. And now they have a book as well. They deserve a thumbs up for teaming up with so many other forces to make it all possible!

I recommend this book completely!

I won this book in a drawing. I was planning to buy it anyways because it is written by two very experienced authors. Christine Durst and Michael Haaren are highly qualified individuals who have done some amazing analysis on this fast growing segment of the job market. They have done the research and have included many up to the minute reviews of legitimate work at home/telecommute companies. This book is so very well organized. It takes you through the steps to determine if you are really ready to take on the challenge and rewards of working from home. This book is a great resource for the new job seeker as well as the seasoned professional looking for inspiration and guidance as they consider the logistics of working from home. I would recommend this for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for total newbies, September 11, 2010

I already knew some of the basic information about working from home, so about half of the book was no news to me. However, the sources of jobs, websites, etc. by themselves are reason enough to buy the book.
A good many of the jobs hire people not as employees but as consultants--this means you are your own boss. This is not a bad thing--just remember the following: regular employees pay half of their FICA taxes, and their employers pay the other half; if you are your own employer (a consultant) you must pay BOTH halves of that tax. And you have to pay for your own health insurance, of course. So think it over thoroughly before you choose to be a consultant/contractor.
If you want to work out of your home, this is definitely the book for you. If you want to start your own home business, look elsewhere.

More than ever, folks grasp for any life raft floating in economically choppy waters, making fodder for scam artists of all kinds. This book is not only a legitimate life ring, it also helps us ward off those eager opportunists.

Seldom have I read a how-to book that contains worthwhile information from beginning to end. A kind of toolkit, the book is logically organized, clearly written in non-technical terms. Although there are no guarantees of employment, everything readers need to have a decent chance at finding meaningful work-at-home is at their fingertips.

Disability ended my rat race career, but my mouth and brain work just fine. I've spent a lot of time looking for telecommuting positions, easily finding scams, but few legit opportunities. Although, through reading Durst and Haaren's ratracerebellion newsletter, I trusted the authors' credentials, I doubted the book would present anything more than warmed over, rehashed advice. I was truly flabbergasted by just how many possibilites there are for someone with a lifetime of skills and a long work history. I can look foward to being useful again. For that, this book is priceless.

In my search for work at home positions I came across the authors' website: [...]. I was impressed with the abundance of information listed on their site, especially the screened job leads making it easier for me in my search. Once I saw they had written a comprehensive guide for those of us that want to work at home, I purchased the book. I'm glad I did. Christine Durst and Michael Haaren have done the legwork researching legitimate companies and providing us with sound advice and guidelines in a down-to-earth, realistic manner. This book is definitely a must read for anyone considering a home based job.

This review is from: Work at Home Now: The No-nonsense Guide to Finding Your Perfect Home-based Job, Avoiding Scams, and Making a Great Living (Paperback)
If your like most who searched the web, and perhaps tried one or more work-at-home opportunities, you know it's hard to find legitimate opportunities. The internet is full of scams, hype, and companies that go out of business without paying you a dime. To avoid the trial and error process in your pursuit of a legitimate opportunity to earn a paycheck working from home, I suggest you buy this book.

Christine Durst and Michael Haaren, are proven experts in the work-at-home, and telecommute opportunities, and they have done all the background work on a multitude of companies. The one thing you will love about this book, is that it's full of resources. How many times have you read a book or magazine, and it told you what you should do, but never explained how to do it? This book will give you all the information and resources you need to start earning money right away.

If your looking for a little supplemental income or even a full time job, you will be able to use the information in this book to make it a reality. This book will change your income and your lifestyle for the better. Highly recommended you invest in yourself by purchasing this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, March 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a magnificent resource for anyone wanting to work at home. It is specifically written for people who know nothing about the work at home world, and for me personally, it explores things I would not have considered, such as how to cope with being isolated at home, or how to increase productivity. The book also has quotes, hints, and tips from people who are already successful. There are so many legitimate, HELPFUL websites included in all the chapters, and an appendix which lines them all up for you when you are finished reading. If you only buy one work at home book, let it be this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really a great jumping off point!, February 7, 2010

This review is from: Work at Home Now: The No-nonsense Guide to Finding Your Perfect Home-based Job, Avoiding Scams, and Making a Great Living (Paperback)
I didn't expect the information/resources in the book to be so helpful, so it was a nice surprise to see how much good information there is.

I bought this book with the intent of hoping to find something temporary to carry me through the current economic crisis. I just needed something part time.

The first impressive item in the book is a self-assessment to determine if working independently at home is really the right choice for the reader. I have a lot of friends who talk about working from home, but know that there would be too many distractions. I learned, though, that working from home is right for me.

The information on how to look for jobs using Google were helpful too. I'm an internet athlete - I use Google 40-50 times a day. However, the tips on how to really fine tune your search was new to me and proved to be helpful.

The job options listed in the book were helpful too. I have a small library on resume design & power words, and have been making resumes for friends for several years. In the upcoming week, I hope to make contact with one of the resume writing resources in the book to see if I can secure a position with them.

But in the meantime, I have landed a position as a secret shopper. I was a secret shopper in the past, and while the work is easy, it's kind of hand to find reputable companies to do it for. Even if I only have time to do one shop a week, that will pay my cell phone bill for the month for a total of 2 hours work.

I highly recommend this book!
