I have followed David's blog for a couple of years now and also read his first book Logo Design Love so this was a no brainer for me. If you are familiar with David's writing, then you won't be surprised to hear that this book is an easy read. David always keeps things simple and easy to understand. I'd say about half of the book is his experience and the other half are contributions from fellow designers who started their own design businesses. There are some really valuable insights in the book and some of the best ones are more about what not to do.

Starting a business of any kind is a huge undertaking. If you are starting a design business, this covers pretty much everything you need to get started. Chances are you will make mistakes along the way so read this book and hopefully you'll make less of them.

Seriously, what a fabulous book. David Airey also has a blog which is a must follow if you love design and want to learn much more about the business side, but also what is happening in the design biz. What makes this book so good is it tackles the most difficult parts of business, including being the best for your clients, but also how to deal with the unreasonable ones.

This book covers all of the bases without going into TOO much depth. Great for beginners or those of us who have stewed over starting to freelance and would find it helpful to have a lot of freelance info and tips all in one place.

David Airey's Work for Money, Design for Love is more than a book about how to succeed in graphic design. It's a book for every self-employed professional who wants to profit from their passion.

Work for Money, Design for Love proves, once again, that the best ideas often can be found by reading books outside of your immediate field.

It's a book about profiting from your passion, your ethics, and your talent...and about the importance of creating a firm foundation for your business so you can enjoy the rewards of your passion, ethics, and talent.

David Airey shares the lessons he learned the hard way as he established and grew one of the most successful design firms around. The lessons he learned are augmented by case studies, ideas, and strategies contributed by other designers around the world.

Once again, David Airey proves he can write as comfortable as he can design...and everyone can profit from his insights into running a professional service business in a competitive and price-sensitive world.

An essential tool for converting my emotionally-fulfilling (although bankrupt) business into a MONEY MAKING one!

Reading this book made me feel at pair with many designers that I admire... We all, as artist, suffer the same pain when trying to think as business people. Those who have survived this pain and accomplished successful businesses share their valuable advice.

We should be obligated to read while going through design school!!!

I spent years in an advertising agency only to realize that it wasn't what I initially wanted to do. I was a graphic designer. I created art that was applicable to promoting a message for the companies that hired my agency. But, working under the iron fist of the art director, creative director and the client, I felt that my creativity was getting lost in their backwards thinking. Airey's book gave me the know how and courage to close that chapter of my life and begin anew. I'm now a competent freelance designer that knows how to say "NO!" to a client that just won't help me further my business and allow for my creativity and ideas to run wild. This book has provided me with many great starting points for my business and I'm positive that any creative person out there will benefit from a read through, or two.

I also read "Logo Design Love" from him and liked this one nearly as much. I found it completely helpful (Since I'm starting my own design firm). He talks a lot about the types of clients and how to manage them, so I would recommend it even for people who are not graphic designers.

A must have, for freelance designers!
