1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing More Than Common Sense
This book is obviously outdated. I knew that going in, but thought there would be some timeless gems. I bought this because it was based on interviews with successful job seekers. There is not one single quote from a successful employee. It is all generalized common sense. For example, win over gate keepers, Define problems, etc.

This review is from: Work This Way: How 1000 Young People designed their own careers in the new workplace- and how you can too (Paperback)
Don't look now, but while you've been busy working, the very nature of work has been changing. This book will open your eyes to the new social contract between you and your employer. Author Bruce Tulgan suggests several ways that you can make these changes work to your advantage. Bulletin: The only job security you can depend on comes when you add immediate value to your company through your knowledge, skills, and initiative. The good news: You may be much better off, if you know how to position yourself. This book is especially useful for Generation Xers and newcomers to the marketplace. We [...] also recommend it as a valuable tool for managers and executives who want a better understanding of their changing workforce.

4.0 out of 5 stars The truth about the new workforce, August 2, 2001

This review is from: Work This Way: How 1000 Young People designed their own careers in the new workplace- and how you can too (Paperback)
I am a fan of Bruce Tulgan's and have been since I read Managing Generation X. This book brought the lives and jobs of many people to my attention through the use of testimonials. For every major point in the book, from How to find a job you are interested in to achieving life/work balance, there were credible testimonies which supported and made Bruce's points come to life. This book not only captures the mindset of the new worker, but more importantly, their heart. Great Book!
