The title is very specific in that it says "building your own AR15," not assembling it. I walk you through, step by step, from start to finish, on how to build an AR15 rifle from a partially completed casting; thereby no paperwork is required. This is as in-depth as you will find without a video, on an AR15 homebuild project. This book was #8 on Paladin's top 20 titles, so it has sold very well. For books on assembly of the AR15, check out titles by Duncan Long and Walt Kuleck. A.A. Perry, I am glad that the book was so helpful to you.

Update 2010:
The 80% lowers are still available from several sources. At this point, the best is ar15plus.com. They have cast and forged lowers.

Also, this book has sold so many copies, that it is now in its second printing. The newest version deals with a few of the changes since the origional copy hit the shelves. This includes a change in suppliers and a note about the AWB sunsetting.

I am glad that this book was so helpful to so many, and that several people who bought it posted their successes on here. That makes the whole project worthwhile. I'm sorry that one guy didn't read the title correctly, but the cover even has a picture of a partially completed lower on it, with me finishing it in various steps. If he missed that, then it's his problem, not yours.

This book is just what it says it is, I completed not one but several rifles using this book.

I went to the websites, and this was the best set of instructions I found.
If you can buy it you can build it, so go for it and buy the book it is worth the price in every mistake you wil avoid. It also tells how to fix those mistakes if you make tham.

When I began searching for a "how to build an AR15" book this wasn't what I had in mind.

This book is written for people who want to build an AR15 and get around the government doing it. They give you step by step directions on how to build it from parts that aren't even complete. For example, there are many in depth pages dedicated to what parts of the lower reciever need to be filed down and drilled.

You can find step by step directions to building your own lower reciever on AR15.com. It has good knowledge of the laws regarding the AR15, but this book was written during the ban. So many of these laws are obsolete.

My advice is to look elsewhere for instructions on the AR15 and it's various offspring.

Outstanding manual for anyone, aside from a gunsmith, who is building their own legal AR-15 and want to keep it legal. All aspects of the assult weapons laws are outlined to familiarize everyone with them and to make no mistake as to what is allowed and what is not. I couldn't have built mine so effortlessly without this workbook.

For those that want to look into manufacturing their own AR lower receiver, this is the place to start. Check with your state and local laws regarding the manufacturer of receivers.

The instructions in this book are clear and would be very useful for someone with reasonable experience and a few basic tools. Unfortunately, this book is designed to help you complete an 80% receiver, and these are no longer available. Get one of the books or videos relating to 0% forgings instead, if you are serious about this project.
