Workbook for Lectors, Gospel Readers, and Proclaimers of the Word is my FAVORITE workbook for lectors! I have used others, and I really prefer this book. The pronunciation guide right there where you need it, the bolding of word and phrases to show you where emphasis should be provided, and the descriptions of what is going on in the biblical text that the readings are taken from are all invaluable to me!

This is excellent for lectors because the readings are printed with words in BOLD for emphasis, there are very good annotations to give a lector background on the specific reading. I use it to prepare each time I'm a lector so I'm comfortable with the material and can convey the intended message to the congregation. Wouldn't do as good a job without this book!

I have been a lector in church for a number of years now. In my previous church, a military chapel, for lack of those sufficiently inspired (or not shy to get in front of a group of people however similar they are in faith), I found myself inheriting the lector coordinator volunteer position. I had had no training and really received no instruction on how to read properly, although, in my previous paid position as a federal employee, I was used to doing briefings for large groups of people. I, therefore, had no fear of public speaking. Jobless in a new city, I wanted to use the skills I did have to serve God and his people. I felt like he was calling me to read and so I end up volunteering to not only read but assign other interested readers to do so. I wish, however, that I had known about a guide like this. It would have been so very helpful not only for myself but for other lectors. Fortunately, in our current church, one of the church employees asked if I would like a copy of this workbook and I agreed not knowing how good it really was.

This book not only lists the readings of scrupture and passages cited but also guides you with pronunciation which for some has historically been a stumbling block. Then in the left margin there are specific instructions on how TO read, when to speak more slowly, when to pause, when to emphasize certain words, etc. One of my favorite features is that, along with the scripture passages themselves, the book gives you some background as to the reading itself. The Introductory chapter is especially meaningful to the new and more seasoned lector/gospel reader alike.

I strongly recommend this book. Even if you are already a seasoned and good lector/gospel reader it will make you read even better thus more greatly honoring the Word of God. It is a privilege to be able to read Holy Scripture made even more so by improving your reading quality.

I have been using these workbooks for many years and have found them especially useful for anyone who may be a Reader at Catholic Masses. It offers so much for a proclaimer of the Word of God such as inflections, when to raise one's voice, what and where to emphasize, pronunciation guide, etc. If you are a Reader or Lector, this workbook is like a second Bible. In training Readers I insist that each person have a copy so they can practice at home well before they have to proclaim the Word before a congregation. Reader/Lector cannot be without this great workbook!

My wife and I have used this workbook over many years. This 2014 edition is a blessing in our individual preparation to share with God's people during the Liturgy of the Word. I believe it should be a requirement for all readers to familiarize themselves with this resource.

I have to admit, I'd never heard of this book but decided to grab a copy as we start the new liturgical year.

Excellent. Recommendations on all readings... Pronunciation for some of those "oh so tough" biblical names.

Just get it!

The commentary is excellent and very helpful in guiding your reading. Wish every lector used this book and practiced beforehand.
