A More Balanced View, June 12, 2007
This review is from: Worked Problems in Applied Mathematics (Dover Books on Mathematics) (Paperback)
This is an excellent problem book, providing concise but readable summaries of the relevant theory for each section. It is true that complete solutions are not provided for every problem but answers are certainly provided for every problem!
In the words of the authors "The majority of problems in this collection are accompanied by hints, facilitating the choice of meaningful methods of solution. In addition, certain problems... are solved in detail in a special section at the end of the book. The problems singled out in this way have been selected either because they illustrate the application of certain specific methods, or because of their special difficulty or particular importance in the applications." Thus is exactly true. In other words, the authors shepherd the student along providing hints and exhaustive solutions at precisely those points where most students will find themselves struggling. Once a method is made explicit in a solution, it is then applied with some variation in several more until a new method is introduced. Especially difficult problems are solved in detail.
So don't let the whining of other reviews dissuade you from taking advantage of a good problem book in applied mathematics. It's not the best I have ever seen but it is certainly worth working through and it's price is excellent.
In fact, most of the titles carried by Dover are worthy of exploration and I am convinced that the worlds of science generally and mathematics particularly have received a wonderful gift in the work of Dover publications. By providing access to very good advanced materials in an inexpensive way, ordinary folk who are not wealthy (such as myself) can work as far as we like into the realm of advanced studies ~ I am very grateful to them and pray to God that they will keep up the good work.

Disapointed!, October 3, 2005
This review is from: Worked Problems in Applied Mathematics (Dover Books on Mathematics) (Paperback)
When you order a book that states "Worked Problems in ..." you expect the problems to have worked solutions. Fully 85% to 90% of the problems have no solutions at all. Problems 1 to 51 also have no solutions. If you are looking for a study aid with solved problems skip this one. If you are looking for a book on applied mathematics skip this one.
