Workin' Out by John Campbell,
By A Customer
This review is from: Workin' Out (Audio CD)
Campbell has come up with a fresh approach to nine jazz standards, from mid-60's to early 70's. With the help of a great bassist, Jay Anderson, these tunes are taken to a new high! Workin' Out offers some unbelievable interpretations of Monk, Corea, Ellington and others, from a rollicking bop ride of Four in One, to a Sea Journey that will pull you in, and a heartbreaking rendition of I Waited For you. I consider Campbell to be one of the best jazz pianists in the world. While unlistenable commercial jazz is getting the airtime, Campbell is producing traditional blow-your-mind jazz that leaves you speechless and wanting more.

John is a great modern jazz pianist - classically trained. He's been playing these tunes all his life. And it shows. This is a trio recording; piano, bass, and drums.
