I am a certified advanced reiki practitioner with a bachelor's degree. My passion is the healing arts. Since it's such a huge field, the quest to learn more is continuous. What attracted me to Furlong's book is the subject of connecting with, and healing, the earth's environment in some way. After reading the Table of Contents online, _Working with Earth Energies_ seemed pretty comprehensive so I bought it. Only a fraction of the material in the book was useful. It certainly wasn't worth $16!

The material is well organized, easy to read and covers a wide range of topics. Unfortunately the introduction and first chapter about the dangers of pollution sounded too preachy and insults the reader's intelligence. After getting past that, I enjoyed reading about spiritual belief systems from many cultures around the world.

Furlong's strong point is wisely in warning readers to protect themselves when working with energy. His suggested methods of protection are easy to follow and could be very useful to beginners in this field.

There are many meditational exercises in the book. Despite being well-written, nearly all the exercises were a little too unusual for my taste. Learning how to become aware of the energies of trees, water, rocks etc. in any particular environment--and note which ones feel better than others is appreciated. BUT, I don't necessarily want to merge my spirit with that of the crow and feel what it's like to be in its body!

I lost more respect for Furlong later in the book when this author notes that he believes in fairies, gnomes etc. Furlong says he and some friends got together and helped free a dragon spirit once... Need I say more?
