I had the chance to read the book before it was released, and I must say: It is a very good and thorough "guide" on Fast Search for SharePoint. Every aspect of working with Fast: Infra, development and some business as well, are touched with this book. It's full of examples and the last chapter even works out a fictive business case. Everyone who does *something* with Fast Search for SharePoint 2010, should buy this book.

This book has a little bit for everyone, whether you are in charge of the servers running FAST for SharePoint, setting up FAST for SharePoint, or even developing for FAST for SharePoint. The chapters are broken down into logical sections that make it easy to find information that pertains to your tasks. I really like the chapter on tips and tricks that seem to be a catch-all for things that may not fit precisely in any other chapter but still provide great value to the reader.

I would recommend this book for anyone that interacts with FAST for SharePoint on more than just a user level.

They have greatly simplified the administration and configuration of search in 2013 but some of the core concepts discussed in depth here are glossed over in the current set of publications. Also, truth be told, we're working with one client that is implementing 2013 and the rest have just finished their upgrades to 2010. It's unlikely they'll be moving to 2013 all that quickly though the advantages of doing so are real.

FAST being a complex product, the book has the quality of combining solid information about FAST as a product but also how we can leverage and optimize the use product within an organization. The two scenarios included (Intranet and e-commerce) show how to go beyond the basic capabilities of the product to leverage the capabilities of FAST the deliver not only search capability but real search solutions.

Overall, I do like this book. The book covers most areas. It is clear, simple and well presented. I would consider this book is for beginner.

It would be nicer if the book cover one more section: SECURITY. How to access to FAST search using kerberos; why NTLM is not enough in common scenarios.

I hope the authors would write another book with extended/in-depth in this great topic.
