Through a powerful EQ lens, he reexamines the core competencies needed to handle difficult conversations and build the solid network of professional relationships so critical to getting things done in today's complex organizations. Packed with over 30 worksheets and tools--including seven new exercises on EQ--WORKING RELATIONSHIPS profiles L'Oreal, Bell Labs, the U.S. Air Force, and other business leaders to illustrate the compelling results organizations and individuals have achieved by putting EQ to work in the workplace.

For anyone who can't seem to get ahead- and cannot figure out why.,

This review is from: Working Relationships: Using Emotional Intelligence to Enhance Your Effectiveness with Others (Paperback)
Sometimes a worker seems to be the best - he has all the ideas, all the cleverness, all the innovation - yet he doesn't flourish - while another, who doesn't have his gifts, flourishes just fine. Why is this? "Working Relationships: Using Emotional Intelligence To Enhance Your Effectiveness With Others"is an examination of how raw brainpower isn't enough to get along in today's corporate world, that one must understand the emotions of others, and to be empathetic to be a successful employee. It includes advice on striking balances between personal and professional, to not take confrontations with hostility, teamwork, and other advice to make readers better employees. "Working Relationships: Using Emotional Intelligence to Enhance Your Effectiveness With Others" is highly recommended for community library collections on career advancement and for anyone who can't seem to get ahead- and cannot figure out why.

Does not deal with real life situations,

This review is from: Working Relationships: Using Emotional Intelligence to Enhance Your Effectiveness with Others (Paperback)
I had hoped that the book will provide some insights about improving relationships at work. Turned out that the book presents unrealistic scenarios where any problem can be solved by 'communication'.
It fails to take into account the fact that more often then not, people are irrational and are driven by motives that cant be resolved by just talking to them. Bottom line is that the book assumes that working relationships are Not a zero-sum game, whereas more often then not they are. I also visited their site to see what it has to offer. The case studies look tailor made to the 'method' the book provides[...]. I wonder how real the cast studies are.
