4.0 out of 5 stars a good cook can use a break too!
This is a great book for those who DO know how to cook. I love to cook and am quite good at it, but with 2 little ones, time is of the essence. I didn't want to give up 'pretty' food for 'quik' food...this book is good for meeting both those objectives. I am going to give it to a friend that doesn't like to cook. 3.0 out of 5 stars These are not easy
I was a bit disappointed - I've tried three recipes and one wasn't very good and the other two were anything but easy. And the "easy" one called for a large amount of grated fontina cheese - a cheese not found in every cupboard and not found in small quantifies and not cheap nor easy to grate. So you make a special trip and than need to hand grate it and have lots left...

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat it up, yum!, May 15, 2000
This review is from: The Working Stiff Cookbook: Great Food! Easy Recipes! (Spiral-bound)
This book was given to me by a girlfriend who saw me as a potential husband. One of my flaws, according to her, was that I did not know how to cook so she gave me the Working Stiff Cookbook as a birthday gift. We were never joined in matrimony but at least now I know how to cook, and what a joy it is!

Since then I've purchased quite a few cookbooks but time and time again I'll pull out this one. The salmon recipes are killer, especially the pan-fried salmon. You'll love the quick chicken recipes as well. So buy the book already! You'll thank me and your stomach will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Every Kitchen!, March 12, 2000

This is one of the best cookbooks I have had the pleasure to use. I love to cook and have used many cookbooks none of which as often as this one. It has provided me with some of my favorite recipies -the Rosemary Chicken, Chicken Parmesan, Pan Roasted Salmon, and the Pan-cakes to name a few. This is a great house warming or wedding/shower gift or even for a college student who misses mom's food. But don't be fooled, these recipies are gourmet class. Extremely easy recipies with everyday ingredients, most meals taking less than an hour from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good cookbook, March 3, 1999

After we had our baby these simple, low-stress delicous meals helped us survive. It doesn't look like much of a cookbook but is actually filled with basic techniques and suggestions that prove valuable.

4.0 out of 5 stars This title is a keeper!, October 23, 2006

This is not the best cookbook ever, but it is an essential one and I include it on my list of six I'd never give up. The recipes are perfect for people that have little time to spend in the kitchen on a regular basis. Some of the recipes are simpler than others, but everything is relative. The recipes we have tried range from pretty good to amazing -- the Chicken Deluxe is spectacular! This book is not really written for the novice cook and it could have used a little more editing to suggest substitutions, but that hardly detracts from its value. I love to cook but there are times when you are simply too tired and mentally fatigued to enjoy the process. But that's no reason to deny yourself truly good food. This book offers you at least that much and that's priceless.

I have several weeknight cookbooks, and I actually bought this one more for its hip design than its contents, but I was pleasantly surprised at the latter. Everything I've made has been tasty and pretty simple to prepare. My only complaint: no pictures!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational, Classy, and Easy-to-Prepare Food!, December 18, 2000
This review is from: The Working Stiff Cookbook: Great Food! Easy Recipes! (Spiral-bound)
I bought this book for my brother who doesn't cook, is a total working stiff, and is sick and tired of take-out. However, when I leafed through it I knew I had to keep it for myself. I'm married and we have two small children and the quick but scrumptious-sounding recipes really appealed to me. So I kept it and gave my brother something else for Christmas last year. On New Year's Eve I prepared a meal from this book for our family: Jumbo Shrimp, Chicken Breasts with Artichokes & Mushrooms, Herb-Roasted Potatoes, a green salad, and Chocolate Pecan Pie for dessert. What a meal!! Since then, I've cooked from this book many times especially when I'm in need of something quick. The recipes are classy and just plain wonderful. I love this cookbook and yes, I did get one for my brother too. Guess what? He's actually begun to cook! Thank-you Bob Sloan for such a wonderful little cookbook!

When you get home from work, the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time in the kitchen. With The Working Stiff
Cookbook you can still cook a gourmet-style dinner, without all the hard work. This cookbook is probably the one I use the
most in the kitchen. The recipes are embarrassingly simple, and you don't have to go to a specialty store to get any of the
ingredients. Before you know it you'll be whipping up Thai-Style Flounder with Coconut Rice and Chicken Curry in a Hurry!

I found this book at a used book store and am very glad I did. I yearn for simple these days; plain fresh food prepared with a minimum of fuss, and this book fits the bill. Do yourself a favor and get a copy.

Everything I have prepared from this cookbook has been quite tasty, as well as easy to fix. These recipes live up to their billing as meals that you can prepare easily and quickly when you get home from a day at work. Not a lot of ingredients and no complicated preparations. But the food is simply yummy. I plan to give this cookbook as a gift to fellow working stiffs.
