Book Description

August 4, 2005
The diversity on the pages of Working in the USA makes it an important contribution to the country's history. Each photograph is a snapshot in time, a time when job opportunity and freedom of choice are as obvious to workers as the color of the sky. Hauber's randomly selected subjects rarely complained about their occupations. They often expressed a belief that lack of desire and hope spells employment failure, but effort, persistence, and a focus on goals can take anyone in the United States where they want to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the Book! August 25, 2005
Format:Paperback
Christines gift as a photographer is truly amazing. Her focus on working Americans really highlights her skills. She has pictures of every job you can think of and some I never even thought about. It's almost a retrospective of jobs in the United States. I think the best part is that the pictures were taken on site. You not only were able to see the jobs, but also their work environment. I think her book "Working In The USA" is an excellent choice for anyone who appreciates the American workforce.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant look at the true American worker August 24, 2005
Format:Hardcover
I purchased this book due to my overwhelming interest in the American people. As I looked through the images, I was intrigued by the powerful contextual images that convey a raw reality of the workers of America. The images span the United States, ranging from a worm grunter in Florida to a mobile knife sharpener in California. She captured jobs that I didn't even know existed. What was even more refreshing is that the images are so diverse, not just in the race of the people but also in their ages. This is a book that is well worth repeated viewing and thus makes a great coffee table book. I especially like the included CD of the thoughts of some of the workers she photographed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shooting on the road. August 30, 2009
Format:Hardcover
I enjoyed this book a great deal. The images were excellent and I feel captured some of the more interesting characters in the American landscape. I am currently in the process of searching for a suitable RV with space for a good 'digital darkroom' and hope to fulfill a long time goal of a long road trip photographing unusual performers around the country. This "Working" gave me a definite boost in chasing that goal. Hats off to a talented young woman.
