5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic wedding planning for the 90s
When I first got engaged, I sat down in my local bookstore for over an hour pouring through the twenty or so wedding planners and guidebooks. I wanted to find the one that was just right for me. This book was perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thick Planning Resource, September 8, 2002
This review is from: Working Woman'S Wedding Planner 3Rd Edition (Paperback)
You need a planner and it might as well be this one. It includes every possible form and list you will ever need for your wedding. If you're having trouble putting it all together, this will help you organize.

That said, it's a good planner but don't look to it for guidance as far as the details of your wedding are concerned. You will need something else (bridal magazine, etc) to help you locate a site, interview possibilities, and compare prices. This book literally will give you a place to organize after you have selected all the components of your wedding. It only helps you plan and organize what you have already chosen.

In addition to the forms and lists, there are chapters written by the author. Tatsui-D'Arcy simply glazes over different parts of your wedding presenting the traditional stance and a few modern variations. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of room to write notes outside of the forms and lists themselves.

The author does include some useful information as it relates to how those with blended families could write their invitations and how an engagement announcement can be written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, great "to-do" lists, November 1, 1998

This is an excellent book for people who have never been married before as well as those who are doing it all over again. The author's lists and "worksheets" are excellent. Since the book is spiral bound, it's easy to use. Ms. Tatsui-D'Arcy does spend some time on nontraditional weddings; alas, I did wish for a little more information on unique approaches than she offers. Still, this is a great resource for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic wedding planning for the 90s, July 30, 1998

When I first got engaged, I sat down in my local bookstore for over an hour pouring through the twenty or so wedding planners and guidebooks. I wanted to find the one that was just right for me. This book was perfect.

Weddings today rarely are the traditional weddings our parents may have had in the 50s. This book presents a realistic, down to earth version of what to expect, while still informing you of traditional methods.

I especially liked the guest listing wich helped me track so many aspects of the pre- and post- wedding activities. I don't have a lot of time to plan my wedding, and the worksheets provided for interviewing vendors was a fabulous help. All of the questions I needed were already well thought out for me.

Each of the books I looked at had something I liked about it, but seemed to be missing some important section. This book really combined the best parts of everything else I saw on the market.

If you are tired of reading books about wh! at your $30,000 (!!) wedding MUST be like, or reading books that don't apply to your complicated 90s family structure, this book will be a great help.

I got many "wedding-planning" type book at my engagement, but this was by-far the best! My husband's aunt gave it to me ... It's a workbook type thing that takes you through everything step-by-step, and it's great to keep afterwards as a momento. We've been married 5 years now and I still look at it from time to time.

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointing planner, November 21, 2000

This planner is pretty poorly organized. For example, the section on announcing your engagement (which one might expect to be in the first chapter) isn't until Chapter 4. Setting the date is in Chapter 3, after you've already read about selecting your wedding party in Chapter 2. It doesn't make much sense to choose your attendants before you even have a date, so why organize the book that way? There also wasn't much new information in the book that I hadn't read somewhere else before. However, the checklists seem somewhat useful; I've only used the budget checklist so far. There are no pockets to hold business cards or contracts or notes, a definite drawback. If you have State Farm insurance, you can get a special edition of this book for free through your insurance agent. It sure beats paying 20 bucks for a mostly useless planner.

This book is so detailed. My boss recommended it to me, and while I appreciated ALL the information, there is a LOT, I was a little turned off by the section reminding me to plan my wedding around my menstrual cycle ... it seems like a great book for a perfect, southern lady ... and i'm a bit more modern than that.

When I went to plan my "hippie" second wedding there was so much to do and so little time. This book kept me organized, on time and under budget.

Our wedding was very much a do it yourself event. The timelines were a savior! I added cardboard "pockets" inside the front and back covers and tore out pages I didn't need. I highly recommend this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Traditional, April 9, 2008

I found this planner to be way too traditional. I got the feeling it was written in the 50's when I went through it. Also very 80's themed even though it was supposed to be redone in 2000. Good only for very traditional weddings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent wedding planner full of great, useful information, November 25, 2007

I am a flamenco guitarist and I do 15 to 20 weddings each year. I bought this book to inform myself of some of the options couples have in terms of various elements of the ceremony, as well as to know some helpful tips to give them in their quest to create the wedding they want.

This book discusses several options and contains a lot of very helpful information on booking the vendors they need, musicians, caterers, florists, photographers, wedding coordinators and consultants, as well as booking the location as well as a host of other excellent tips.

I highly recommend this book to brides and grooms. It cannot contain information on your local vendors and locations as it would grow to be the size of an encyclopedia, but it does provide a wealth of very useful tips and checklists/organization sheets to keep track of the information you gather during the planning and hiring.

There are many useful suggestions for seating relatives, some of whom may not have a comfortable relationship, a tool kit of sorts for brides the day of the wedding which is likely to solve most any small problem arising from dresses and other possible mishaps, cost cutting suggestions, duties for wedding party (best men and bridesmaids), gift exchanging and a host of other advice that will be appreciated by the bride and groom.

There are also ceremony suggestions for several major religious groups, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Orthodox, Protestant and more. There are even some thoughtful suggestions on booking a honeymoon, where and when the deals may be found.

There really isn't a lot this book doesn't cover.
