A Must-have Book,
By Barbara F. Backer "Preschool Teacher for 20+ ... (Charleston, SC USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Workjobs: Activity-Centered Learning for Early Childhood (Addison-Wesley innovative series) (Spiral-bound)
I have made many of the items in this book, and all of them engage the children in hands-on learning. Students really enjoy doing "Workjobs", as we call the activities. Each activity is self-contained. To increase the learning opportunities, I suggest that a fellow classmate "check the work" of the child who has completed the activity. I also stress that putting the "Workjob" away in its special place is a part of the activity.
Children acquire many independent learning skills while using the "Workjobs" activities. All of these activities feel like games, but each teaches many different skills. This is a must-have book for preschool/kindergarten teachers who use a hands-on approach to active learning. Oh, one more thing -- parents enjoy making the activities for the classroom. All patterns and instructions are included.

This book gives great start up ideas for creating fun, innovative ways to aid in children developing skills from counting, sequencing, fine motor skills and cognitive thinking. Kids use their imagination, so can adults, to create and modify any one of these hands-on, learning activities. Great resource!

Perhaps the best early childhood resource.,
This review is from: Workjobs: Activity-Centered Learning for Early Childhood (Addison-Wesley innovative series) (Spiral-bound)
I have created a number of activities discussed in this book and the children love them! The centers are great ways to differentiate within the classroom and have proven to be highly successful for my students.
I use this book as a resource for creating centers across the curriculum, and as inspiration for making engaging games and activities for pre-school and pre-k children. I highly recommend this book! It is a must for teachers who want to engage students in high-quality, early childhood activities. |
