Product Description

Fed by media fascination with super heavyweights like George Foreman, the perception of boxers as oversized guys with oversized muscles is simply wrong. For every weight class, strength must be carefully balanced with the ideal physique. In truth, boxer training produces a body perfectly balanced for strength, shape, speed, and stamina.

The author traveled the world talking to top boxers about how they train for peak performance. Their workouts will help reshape the reader's body, and the short bios and quotes from legendary favorites will inspire readers to take their workout to the next level.

This one-of-a-kind approach to the world of boxing offers readers proven tips on balancing their own physique. Want to build more strength? Follow the workout of heavyweights like Ali. Need to slim down but don't want to lose muscle? Try the program of middleweight Fernando Vargas. Want to go all out for the ultimate physical fitness? Then try to keep up with the training of pound-for-pound legend Roy Jones Jr.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review - Workouts from Boxing's Greatest Champs, January 5, 2005
Here is a boxing book that needs to be a part of your collection. Even if you are not a die-hard boxing fan, I'm sure you have an awareness of how physically fit these athletes have to be in order to compete at the championship level. Gary Todd has traveled around the world and gained real insight (straight from the champion's mouths) on how they prepared themselves. This book even tells how the Great Muhammad Ali trained, and what he ate during his training camps, etc.

I found this book to be very informative and an overall "EASY" read. For a person on the go, this is one of those books that has the look and feel of a magazine vs. a book. Once I picked it up and started reading it, I didn't stop until I finished the book. At approximately 144 pages, with great photos to illustrate the training, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a boost of motivation to get their own body into better shape.

In addition to covering these great Champion's workouts such as Roy Jones Jr., Muhammad Ali, Kostya Tszyu, etc, Gary shares his own workout program as well. On page 139, Gary's statement says it all; "Work Hard, Train Hard, Be Your Best - Push Through To The End." With the New Year just coming in, this book hits the market at a great time to align with those New Year's resolutions. Hey, this book has motivated me to revisit my own workout routines. A great `reader friendly" book loaded with a ton of valuable information for getting your body in shape. It's like having these great boxing champions as your personal trainers. I give this book two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars undisputed book on boxing/fitness. the best i have seen., November 4, 2004
By victor olan (australia) - See all my reviews
this book is the best book on boxing i have read. i was so excited when i got the book, and i couldnt put it down. the author travelled to meet and train with some of the biggest names of the sport of boxing, and document what they did in the gym. you can tell that the author has walked the walk and talked the talk. the photos are fantastic and the book also gives the reader, a typical day in the life of the champion, while he was training for their big fights. this unique fly on the wall look at boxings world champions is the best i have seen. the real deal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, May 9, 2006
This is not at all what might be expected. The book is filled with pictures, the same 10 or so interview questions and a list of workout routines that vary, slightly, with each athlete. There is no rationale included in the benefits or strategy of each boxer's workout or routine. There is very little here that would be of use or interest to anyone interested in learning.
