5.0 out of 5 stars Par Excellence!, May 31, 2008
This review is from: Works (Audio CD)
If you are a newcomer to this duo's camp, I cannot recommend this three-disc Rhino collection more highly. Considering that their music is still, more or less, unheard of in these United States save for smooth jazz formats on el radio, this is a very wise investment for the individual who wants to purchase a good taste of them without the hassle of procuring all their albums. I myself only possess three, and one is on vinyl! You get a taste of everything from the mid-80s to the mid-90s, and it's all a pure pleasure to hear.

Ben Watt and Tracey Thorne dabble in gentle new wave flavored pop, 60s soul, and smooth jazz with a stylishly cool flair that only the Brits can pull off. They are sophisticated beatniks, classy slobs, and coolly passionate. Complete with their everyday British life lyrics, they are like the philosophers of lounge music. Their voices are so similar that their harmonies are almost heavenly, and Tracey's voice alone is one that some of the most polished female pop performers couldn't garner with years of training.

Check out great standouts like "Each and Every One," "Are You Trying to Be Funny?," "Cross My Heart," ---well, there are simply too many. I love their casual smoothness mixed with their British reserve and passionate lyrics. If you like Swing Out Sister, Sade, or Spandau Ballet's True album, you need this EBTG collection. I promise that you won't be disappointed. I play mine constantly!

This is such a great collection of old and new tunes. The only thing I would have enjoyed, if one more track could be added or substituted, is the acoustic version of Driving (on Adapt or Die, i think). I can easily listen to all three cds in a row if i'm tidying the house or baking on the weekend. Love, love, love this set!

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL é uma dupla que sigo desde sua criação no começo dos anos 80. E aprecio tudo que fizeram até hoje. Esses 3 cds reunem grandes composições da dupla Tracey e Ben Watt.

An incredible bargain, and this is one group whose evolution is more interesting than any single song they've done. Load these into iTunes and cherry-pick your best playlist and you'll have a personal greatest-hits collection that you'll listen to for years.
