One of the complaints of the orthodox medical community about alternative medicine is that proof of its efficacy is usually found mainly in patient testimonials?often from celebrities. This book provides just that. In its pages 18 therapies are described by 18 celebrities, who are mostly from the entertainment industry, with a few exceptions like author Alice Walker and Senator Tom Harkins. The therapies range from the noncontroversial, like mind/body medicine, to the unproven, like psychic surgery. Most of the patients didn't sound all that sick to begin with and did not adopt the therapy wholeheartedly. For instance, when actress Diane Ladd developed many allergies, she read a book on the therapeutic effects of juicing. She did not adopt a complete juice fast but started drinking four glasses of juice a day, which, she claims, made her allergies disappear. The actual information about the therapies is extremely brief, although the recommended reading list in the back contains useful sources in these areas.
