5.0 out of 5 stars It begs for a sequel
I've always loved Dutch's work on commentary in Smoky Mountain and the all too brief run behind the mic in WCW. When I heard the Dutchman would be putting out a book - I instantly joined the mailing list and waited with great eagerness for it to arrive. Hands down one of the best wrestling books out there. 3.0 out of 5 stars The World According To Dutch
After reading all the stellar reviews on this book, I spent the $23, or whatever it was to order it. I found it to be just OK. It has a bit of humor in it, and some cheesy one liners, and some decent stories from the "old" days, but that's about it. Maybe I just pumped myself up for it after the reviews, and was let down just a tiny bit. It also kinda perturbed me that...

The book reads like you're sitting in the car with the Dirty Dutchman driving down the highway and he's right there with you telling you his stories.

My biggest complaint? IT ENDED!! Clearly Dutch knew that by putting this out then everyone would want another book..and then another..and another. Well he has me hooked that's for sure.

I just hope in the next one Dutch gives us his thoughts on such TNA "classics" as the Reverse Battle Royale or the epic Barbed Wire Christmas Tree match - I have a feeling his take on those are just priceless.

I must admit to not being very aware of Dutch Mantell so I bought this book with some trepidation as I thought it could have been fairly dull.

Turns out that Dutch Mantell is one great story-teller! He has been around the smaller territories (not counting a fairly brief WWF managerial run) for many years and has worked behind the scenes at TNA.

Mantell is a natural at telling stories of places, events and people that he has met with humour and at times, drama. He spends a chapter on his dealings with Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Kane before all three were famous. This is one of the better sections of the book (especially with Austin) and if Mantell did nothing else in the business, his contribution to these three men alone would make him a legend.

Looking forward to his next book and hope there are more to come from Dutch.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun-filled ride down the roads with one magnificent storyteller, January 15, 2010

Finished this wonderful book of stories. I was facinated by so many of the wild and fun accounts including wrestling a bear and inside a prison, along with tales of Puerto Rico, Memphis, WWE and more. I have to say that this is an awesome book all around.

Fans & Readers, Buy a copy now. Better yet, buy a few copies and give some of them to your friends. If you don't have any friends, you will make some after they read the book you gave them. They will be laughing out loud for sure.

When the world gets you down, It is nice to know there is a place you can go for a smile and some great memories and great fun. Of course, that place is "The World According to Dutch".

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Ride,what a story!, January 7, 2010

Just finished the book, and I have to say,It's a classic. If you wanted to know what some of these folks go through in the crazy world of wrestling, this book is for you.Sort of does what 'The wrestler"did in the movie, except the book goes behind the scenes so you can look through the eye's of Dutch and he "Shares" his "...thoughts" with us as well.I was with Dutch as he wrestled in that Prison,as me and my father were the "ring crew".Yes,i thought and wondered the same of our cousin,Jerry Jarrett,"why would he book wrestling at a..PRISON?!"..
Dutch, you have literally done/seen it all.Glad you survived "the ride".Let's just hope it isn't over. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

It also kinda perturbed me that Dutch tries to sell signed copies of this for like $20 more, I mean c'mon man, you are lucky we are buying your book with it's already high price tag, but now we have to pay for your signature too?! WTF!

Dutch Mantell is a man that has seen and done everything in the wrestling business and knows how to tell great stories. Whether you are a wresling fan or just want a great read Dutch delievers the goods. If you are going to buy any wresting books this year get both of Dutch's. His second just came out and is every bit as good as the first. You won't be dissappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the BEST Pro Wrestling Book Ever Written, April 2, 2010
This review is from: The World According To Dutch (Paperback)
I can not say enough good things about this book! It is hands down the best, most entertaining, fun, interesting, well written book about the wrestling industry. Dutch has an amazing way with words and I was riveted from beginning to end. It's obvious he is a master story teller and his recollection, (though self admittedly he is forgetful) of details is amazing!

Dutch tells your stories and experiences that both the insider geeks would love as well as those who are not wrestling fans. I shared several of Dutch's stories with my wife (who for lack of a better term, "hates" wrestling) and she was howling in laughter!

I finished The World According to Dutch way faster then I would have liked! I equate his book to a prime 10oz. filet mignon. Tantalizingly delicious while you are eating it, yet sad when you are finished. Sad that such a great thing had to come to an end.

Thank you Dutch for such an amazing entertaining read and I look forward to reading part deux!
