Per Gessle's endless wealth of talent,

Although I'm a huge Roxette fan, I hadn't really delved into Per and Marie's solo projects until I saw this CD at the local shop one day. I picked it up, took it home, and was blown away. Per's knack for writing killer tunes is in full effect in this album, which features such great tracks as "Elvis in Germany" (An ode to The King like no one else could deliver), "I Want You To Know," a beautiful Roxette-style ballad, "There is My Baby", an awesome rocker, "T-T-T-Take It!," a poignant song against spousal abuse (which was almost recorded for Roxette's greatest hits album, but was bumped in favor of "June Afternoon"), "I'll Be Alright," which features a cameo appearance by Marie Fredriksson (the female half of Roxette) and my favorite, the oddly-yet-brilliantly titled "B-Any-1-U-Wanna-B," which would have been right at home in Roxette's "Have a Nice Day" album. You really can't go wrong with this one, there's not a single speck of filler. Per goes all out with this one, and further establishes his reputation as one of the great songwriters in rock music. The day will come when this man will be mentioned in the same breath as Lennon and McCartney. He's THAT good. And watch out for the Roxette reference in "Reporter"!

Ballads lacking.,
By
This review is from: World According to (Audio CD)
Per Gessle has always been a great songwriter. Back in the late 70's and early 80's he wrote some great songs for his band Gyllene Tider. And his ballads are always great. Roxette has made some great ballads. And the ballads is what's lacking on this album. Here's some great songs with good melodies, like he always does. So if you're the kind of Roxette fan who prefer their faster songs, especially the ones sung by Per, you'll like this album, but if you're a fan of Roxette's ballads, This is probably not the album you should buy.

I want you to know... this album is almost unreal!,

To me music does not get much beter than this... all the songs have the catchiness of Roxette, but with an extra punch and energy, and you just know Per is throwing everything into this... Some say there are no ballads, but there is actually four of them. Although they're very nice, I certainly wouldn't have minded if they were left out for some more great rockers!Although there's just one song that's a homage to Brian Wilson, there's a real beach boys influence throughout the album. What a shame there was never much promotion for it, and Per just felt of it as something to do in between Roxette albums. B-B-B-Buy It!!!!

I could never give a 5 to any CD of the world. It's unfair. Or it isn't? That's not important now. The World According... is a refresh, a drop of Roxettism, of swedism, of that European air you wanna breed if you really appreciated the growing and development of pop from 80 - 90's. That's for non-Roxers fans. For those who are...comes the question: Where and why in time did Per forget to keep in this rocky way? Do you wanna be my baby? is definetely a summer hit, perfectly suitable with a Roxette album. Did Per simply forget how to do it or is Roxette the other side of the wall? I mean, if he can do such an excellent, powerful and happy songs album, why couldn't he keep it in Roxette ones? Anyway, if you wanna hear something good, something really worth and powerful in the last five years, don't think - buy it. You will feel many references to McCartney and Bowie styles. And of course, if nice strings please you more than keyboards and CPUs why didn't you order it yet???

Simular to 'Room Service' - Roxette,

All the songs could deffinately be passed off as Roxette, I don't know that an are particular standouts, but all verry good. Mostly the very up-beat songs he's famouse for with Roxette, not many Ballads. Even though Marrie Fredrickson does not appear in this album (except one song) there is unmistakebly a woman singer in some of these songs which makes it very identical to Roxete. I think this album is very simular to the new CD 'Roomservice' by Roxette. but not nearly as good as Roxettes previous album 'Have a nice Day' (2nd best album ever made in my oppinion)

Definitely worth the investment!,
This review is from: World According to (Audio CD)
Why do I want to move to Europe, you ask? Simple...so that I won't have to pay outrageous prices for imports like this one! However, I don't regret the investment...this cd is by far one of my favorites! I've rarely had more fun singing along with songs than I have with these, and why not? Per is the mastermind behind the catchy hooks and infectious lyrics of Roxette, and while he's carried a lot of that sound onto this cd, he's also experimented with other styles and sounds. My personal favorites are "Stupid," "Do You Wanna Be My Baby?," "Saturday," and "T-T-T-Take It!" I highly recommend this album, to both old and new Roxette and Per fans.

Rocker and better than Roxette,
By A Customer
This review is from: World According to (Audio CD)
I live in Spain and here there are a lot of Roxette fans all around. I think it's the only country where all Roxette records get high on charts. The two last one were top ten. When this album was released I was addicted to Roxette because of Crash!Boom!Bang! album. I had bought anything from Roxette in that time that were in stores. I loved the acoustic and rock guitars on their songs and I never wanted them to change Techno-pop style they're doing right now. Have a nice day could be done perfectly by Ace of Base So, this album for me it's the rockest of the career of Per, for me and for everyone who can listen to it. In my opinnion, this record took some ways (rock overproduced songs and intelligent lyrics) that Robbie Williams has taken in his three albums. For example, "Stupid" reminds me a little bit to "Strong" from Robbie. If you liked "Tourism" acoustic songs or "Joyride" rock songs you will adore this one. Go straight to "KIX", its sound is incredible (Garbage, this masterpiece is not yours...). Yeah, it's true, there are no ballads in this one, but you won't miss them.

Best Real Rock Album Since Beatles, Bowie & Beyond!,
By
This review is from: World According to (Audio CD)
You could call this CD Beatles/Bowie/BeachBoys & Beyond! An incredible collection of mainly overlooked brilliance! Roxette is awesome. But this is raw & rockin awesome. Thankfully Per showed us this side of his Roxette mind. Exceptional tunes. I couldn't take off the headphones. "Stupid" "Reporter" and "Saturday" kick it up. If you're into excellent good time tunes, turn it up. If you don't love this CD, I'll buy it from you & add it to a needy rockin Christmas stocking or two!

My favourite album of the late nineties...,
This review is from: World According to (Audio CD)
TWATG is a faboulus album, containing more instant hits than any other of Per's previous works. The best song, I think is "Wish You The Best", a beautiful ballad that enchants everybody. Give it a try and sue me if you don't like it...
