Book Description

October 1, 2007
The wisdom of the newest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

From election "loser," to bearded recluse, to dynamic Oscar, Emmy, and Nobel Prize winner: Al Gore has come a long way since 2000, and he has chronicled his up-and-down post-Washington journey in books, editorials, speeches, and interviews. In The World According to Gore, Bill Katovsky collects the best of the former vice president's writings and sayings, and gives us a picture of the new Al Gore that is more revealing and up-to-date than any other. Gore speaks out—on the environment, that election, the Bush presidency, and the next election. The World According to Gore shows that Gore is still our foremost prophet on the climate crisis, technology, and the war on terror, and more, and that he will have a major impact the 2008 presidential election—whether he decides to run or not.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Do you need a path toward understanding Al Gore? Something more (can it be) than "An Inconvenient Truth?" Different than "The Assault on Reason?" Bill Katovsky has put together a compendium that helps us understand "The World According to Gore." -- Truth and Reason

He's been right about global warming. . . health care . . . the war in Iraq. I think the country would like a moment of redemption to right the wrong [of the 2000 election]. . . . I really hope he gets into the race. -- Michael Moore

5.0 out of 5 stars What coulda, woulda, shoulda...and still might be?, October 11, 2007
This review is from: The World According to Gore: The Incredible Vision of the Man Who Should be President (Paperback)
A handy and insightful overview of everything Gore-ish. Neatly organized into various topics: climate crisis; the 2000 Presidential race; Hollywood; technology; the media; George Bush's Reign of Lies, Terror, and Fear; Running for President Again; and others. Very readable, very lively, very engaging, and not at all ponderous or preachy. Editor Katovsky's introduction gets to the heart of the matter: Here's a guy, Gore, who won the popular vote in 2000; and but for the Supreme Court's dubious intervention, we would now have a different leader in office. Oh, what might have been! Gore has evolved since that debacle, and we gain a sense of his unofficial statesman-like influence on American political culture--in fact, most of the quotes post-date 2000 and are very up-to-date. The book is extremely timely right now: lots of folks have been mobilizing into a "draft Gore" movement. Even if that movement ultimately fails, this book will stand as a lasting testimony to the road not taken. That's not necessarily a reason for despair but, rather, an occasion to see that the march of history is not pre-scripted or written in stone.
