5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book for the Millenium!
This book is a information-packed reference book that is a keepsake because of one reason: the beginning of the millenium. It is also rare because of the unmentionable subject on who was our next President - it only gave us detailed info on the Gore/Bush election. It's got everything we can think of and more. I recommend this book to everyone for school,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wait for next year's
Because they issued a new edition in 2001, I wrongfully assumed it would include the 2000 census information. It doesn't. It comments on the 2000 election, but yet doesn't list George W. as the most recent president. Deadlines came before content.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the world's great one volume reference works, December 17, 2000

There are a number of almanacs in print such as "Information Please" and the "Time Almanac." However, none will ever top this great reference. As a child, I used to spend hours on end looking up my favorite celebrities to see how old they were. I would study the sports statistics in great detail. I would scrutinize state by state and county by county presidential election results (how appropriate this will be after the 2000 election). I would ponder the change in population of major cities from one census period to the next. I would determine when the next solar and lunar eclipse visible in my area would occur. I would marvel at these and many other fascinating bits of information. The 2001 World Almanac promises to be a classic... Why??? Because it is the only one that is unable to tell us who was elected president. An article of the year's top news events tells of the incredible Bush/Gore election and how close it was but, there was no winner announced, just a story of the incredibe circumstances. The book went top press too soon. I have always been fascinated by this book and I think it is one of the truly great values in reference works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have a copy, March 8, 2001
By
This review is from: The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2001 (Paperback)
This is a great reference book not only just to have on hand but to browse through. I'll guarantee every time you do you'll learn something new. Whether you need info on other countries, past presidents, notable entertainers of the past and present, colleges and universities, agriculture, or if you just would like a handy copy of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, you've got it all right here. Only complaint is that the print's too small, so I'll just give it 4.999999 stars. Heck, just round it up to 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Almanac Beats Many Internet Search Engines, January 29, 2001

Even though I use the net for much research, I keep a copy of "The World Almanac" next to my chair. Many times a quick fact that would take 30 or more minutes to locate with a Search Engine can be found in the Almanac in 5 minutes. Highly recommended, especially if you like to refresh your memory on many subjects by performing quick scans within it's pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars The World Almanac--a book you can trust., March 3, 2001

I have been using the World Almanac since 1991 when I was 11 years old. Since then, the Almanac has been with me through good times and bad. As I have grown, the Almanac has grown as well. It is has information about almost everything under the sun. One good thing about the Almanac is its index. It makes it easy to find what you want. I've tried others--but the World Almanac is the best. Besides the Bible and the Columbia Encylopedia it's a book you can trust.

5.0 out of 5 stars It May Not Have The Sex Appeal of the Internet, August 16, 2001
By
This review is from: The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2001 (Paperback)
As a professional author with my debut novel in its initial release, I know I don't need THE WOLRD ALMANAC in this Internet Age. I can find anything I want to know by surfing across the World Wide Web. Despite that knowledge, I buy a new almanac annually. It rests on my desk next to my dictionary, and I use it more often. A day doesn't go by while I'm working that I don't use the almanac to check a fact or confirm some information. Its facts are accurate, unlike some Internet "facts" and information can be easily found without resorting to a search engine. I've had a new almanac every year since I was in the fourth grade, and I am certain I will get a new one every year until I die.

Each year I look forward to the next edition! I use this series extensively for business plans, papers and just to satisfy my curiosity. It answers virtually all of the current questions one could have about the world and today's society. In fact, one can also obtain a more objective view of history by collecting the older copies, especially in the years of interest. As this publication has been around since before the First World War, many years are available!

A very useful book. A little too heavy on the American stuff that I have little interest in. Those pages could've been filled with more international information. C'est la vie. Good facts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for those who love information., January 8, 2002

I buy the new one each year. The World Almanac is my favorite fact book. As a writer, I require the best information possible. I trust this book. But I also enjoy it. I enjoy the trivia. I love to find out how old my favorite stars are. Who is living and who is dead. Just about everything you want to know is in this book. So I suggest you buy a new copy each year. They're informative but they're also fun!
