To Create a New World, We Must Create a New Dream,
By Cynthia Sue Larson "www.realityshifters.com" (San Francisco bay area, CA USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
John Perkins' book, THE WORLD IS AS YOU DREAM IT is one of those rare books that tells a riveting story at the same time as it provides deep insights into what makes us who we are and the world what it is. I was so riveted to this book that I couldn't put it down for a second until I finished reading it.The big idea in THE WORLD IS AS YOU DREAM IT is outlined by shamans in Ecuador who describe to Perkins the difference between living one's fantasies and living one's dream -- and how this difference has enormous personal and global repercussions. Healing involves changing one's dream; replacing a dream of illness with one of health. As one shaman tells Perkins, "I don't heal. I simply help them change their dream." Perkins has been bringing people to learn from native shamans for many years -- living true to a desire he had since childhood to see indigenous peoples teach westerners their ways, and in so doing, change the course of history. Shamans have a strong need to change things, and Perkins does a fabulous job of describing some of his experiences visiting native shamans in Ecuador who demonstrate their healing and psychonavigation skills. A doctor who was part of Perkins' group was certain she died after ingesting ayahuasca (also known as "vine of the soul", or "vine of death") -- and she was also certain that a Shuar shaman brought her back to a healthy body by sucking the toxins from her and vomiting them nearby. What impresses me most about THE WORLD IS AS YOU DREAM IT is the way Perkins illuminates the big picture of what humans are doing on Earth at the same time as he shares moving personal accounts of people who come to the Amazon and Andes to receive healings and gain vision in their lives. We are all interconnected, and dreaming this dream together... and we change this world by changing our perceptions. Dream change is an essential skill that everyone concerned with the future of humans on Earth has a vested interest in, and that we all can learn. If you are ready to journey to a place where "what we dream, happens", this is the book for you!

A vital insight into our culture,
By A Customer
This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
This book allowed me to value a part of my soul that our culture foolishly and fearfully demands is not valuable. One of the concerns raised in this book that I found very useful is: That our culture has substituted our "valuable life experiences" for "beliefs in fantasy experiences". Read this book if you want to start appreciating the differences between: Dream vs fantasy; Life vs knowledge; Value vs belief; Support vs product; Diversity vs poverty;Kevin Bethel MD

Great book for the both the inner and outer explorer,
By Abrams (Schaumburg, IL United States) - See all my reviews

I highly recommend this book. It is a true account of a doctor who takes people into the rain forests to stay with the people of the forest. Everyone involved begins to question the reality in which they live. Along with documented medical healings, many take an inward journey into the soul with a great shaman. The doctor still continues to take people into the forest, and the book contains information to get in touch with him. This was one the first books I read when I began to search for something more than the capitalistic concrete souless world around here. I truely enjoyed this book.

Dreaming it as it is,

This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
This is a superb rendition of spiritual principles crafted within the context of indigenous cosmology. It reflects broader corollaries that can be assigned to numerous spiritual disciplines world wide and provide a source of inspiration to those who question the nefarious motives of unfettered "development" with all its hideous consequences.
Mr. Perkins utilizes vast personal experience to highlight indigenous wisdom that takes to task our ethnocentric, greed based, industrialized world view that seems designed to ransack planetary resources and exploit the lives of all it can consume. A sad commentary on the foibles of an economic system run amuck, yet, a surprisingly inspirational joy ride through time and space as seen through the eyes of the author. Highly recommended.

John Perkins,
By The Roadcaptain "The Roadcaptain" (Toronto, Cananda) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
Perkins is a 50 plus year old former International businessman who made the transition from a tool of the modern day robber barrons to a spiritually concerned member of the human race. I suggest that his books be read in the order of their publication to really understand the mans evolution. His body of work should be in the high schools of all the countries that are sucking up the worlds resources. Then, maybe, with a generation of informed people the planet can change it's course from a head on collision with disaster to a place where people understand the bounty of this world must be properly allocated and the appropriate opportunities are available for everyone. There is to much in his books to write about here. An automatic for any person wondering how the world really works and how it could work.

Life-Changing, for some .........,

this book will never be beat. This was my introduction to John Perkin's books and I went on to read all the others; Shapeshifting, Psychonavigation, Confessions of an Economic Hitman, being my other favorites and just as good. This book though is a great introduction to Amazonian Ayahuascuero Shamanism, a practise that is still very strong while other branches of Shamanism, have, in a word, failed. I've studied Shamanism from all over the world; Siberian, Alaskan, Canadian, North America, but to me it all seems to point to the Amazon. If you can appreciate the differences between the words 'psychedelic' and 'entheogen' then I think you may enjoy this very good book.

A New Way of Viewing the World,
By
This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
This book is for those of you who recognize that there is something inherently wrong with the way our society operates. Even if you don't recognize it, this book will shed light on a myriad of problems. We can all learn a few things from indigenous people, and Perkins is a level-headed expert on the subject. Short and easy to follow, this book is a must read!

Dream into Reality,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The World Is As You Dream It: Teachings from the Amazon and Andes (Paperback)
If you've read any of the many books out there on shamanism, dream reality, alternative medicines, etc., then this is a must read. All the "feel good" books in the self-help section can't speak in volumes what this book shares. You dream from the heart, not from the mind. We create and continue to recreate our misery, environmental destruction, and poverty as well as the wealth, technological advances, and beauty we have today by dreaming - recognize the difference between a "dream" and "fantasy" - recognize that dreaming from the mind results in prosperity AND poverty, but dreaming from the heart results in true wealth. Thank JP for writing the ancient wisdom in an updated and approachable manner for today's society.

I thought this book was great. I have been journeying for years, so it hits home. Its fascinating to read about other cultures so far from our own. Yet since journeying has some common traits, its wonderful.
