4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Projects
I really love this book. It is packed full of fun and whimsical projects. Diagrams are pretty small, however, which makes them a little hard to read. There are projects for all levels-- a real novice to more experienced beaders. A few things, like the animals, for example, require a very small amount of a large selection of different beads but the designs lend...

2.0 out of 5 stars The World of Beads
I read the reviews on this book and thought it would be great- but I don't like the way it is set up, pictures first and then directions in the second half of the book. I also think the directions could be written better- they can be a little bit confusing. I am going to get another book on this subject beacause this one isn't very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is absolutely wonderful, January 9, 2007

My daughter loved the Klutz, "Beadlings" book. I looked forever for something similar. This is the only book I found similar to the books from Japan I used to buy as a child to make little beaded critters.

If you need detailed instructions or do not have seed beed experience this book is NOT for you. It is more intermediate to advanced, but the projects are wonderful.

As a bead-a-holic and jewelry maker for many years (30+) I am always impressed when a new book comes out that inspires me to get my beads out and "play". This book has whimsical projects that are inspiring and fun and make great gifts that come from the heart. I find the instructions to be concise and easy to follow, however I have a lot of beading experience, so I am hoping that it is as understandable for the beginner as well. It has great ideas for gifts that kids would love, and anyone who is a child at heart! No matter what, it is a MUST HAVE in any whimsical minded beadcrafter's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beaded Sushi, October 3, 2010
This review is from: The World of Beads (Paperback)
The projects in this bead book are amazing - very intricate and detailed. There is a wide selection of flowers (tulips, gerberas, roses and dandelions), animals (giraffes, monkeys, mice, etc.), houses, people, and even sushi!

Some of the projects require patience to make, but the end results are well worth it. You will love the many uses you'll find for these beaded beauties!

4.0 out of 5 stars The most challenging of the Ondori Japanese beadwork books, March 23, 2008
This review is from: The World of Beads (Paperback)
This is the third of the three Japanese beadwork books by Ondori (the first two being "Glass Bead Artistry" and "Basic Beadwork for Beginners"). Japanese beadwork or bead artistry is the art of making pictures or sculptures from small glass beads (seed beads) that have been threaded on to wire, which is then bent and twisted into shape. In this book, almost all of the projects are 3-dimensional, making it more challenging that its two predecessors where the projects were primarily of the simpler 2-dimensional variety. Projects in this book include flowers, animals, houses, lots of food, dolls, kitchenware, an amusement park, hats and Christmas decorations.

As in the previous books, there are colour photographs of the different projects provided throughout the book, and the instructions for making the projects are simple enough for a child to follow (although these projects would also appeal to adults - I'm 27 and I like them). The instructions generally take the form of an illustration showing the layout of the beads. However, unlike in "Glass Bead Artistry", in this book, these illustrations are given in black and white, making them more difficult to follow than their colour counterparts (this is why I only gave this book 4 stars instead of 5). Nevertheless, as I have said in my reviews of the other Ondori beading books, this book and the other two Ondori books on this topic, are all excellent, and well worth your money.

Another winner. Keep them coming. How about one on flowers and flower arrangements? I'll buy it, as soon as it is available.
