This would have been a great book to have during band in college. As a percussionist, we used a variety of auxiliary instruments, but I don't think we were playing them correctly! This book has pictures and lessons for dozens of ethnic percussion instruments. The CD has 47 tracks of example sounds and rhythms for you to play along with. I wish there was a full map of Africa, though (there's only one on the cover.)
