This review is from: A World of Breads. (Paperback)
This is a great variety of breads with easy to follow directions in the "art" of breadmaking. I would recommend it to any cooking library.

The best variety of bread recipes ever!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: A World of Breads. (Paperback)
I found this book in a used bookstore in Madison when I was a college student and baked bread to relieve stress from studying.(Better to punch a bowl of dough than...). Seventeen years later it is still my favorite cookbook and it looks it!! It has an incredible variety of bread recipes and every one is relatively easy to make and tastes great. I have made everything from waffles to Swedish rye to coffeecake to pizza dough. A must-have for those who love to bake bread by hand.

The Best!,

This review is from: A World of Breads. (Paperback)
I bought this cookbook as a bride many years ago. It has been used so many times that not only is it falling apart, it still has a circular burn on the back pages from the time I was following a recipe with the book propped onto the two-burner stove, as the wife of an intern living in the intern's and resident's dorm next to the old LA County Hospital. Our tiny kitchen was built into a closet, but I still made bread from my favorite cookbook. The loaf breads are the best ever, and I use the waffle and pancake recipes every week. This book should be in every cook's library.

My Favorite Book on Breads,
By
This review is from: A World of Breads (Hardcover)
A World of Breads was the first bread baking book I had ever purchased and is still my favorite 30 years later. Simple and easy to understand recipes that any home baker can use with confidence. I highly recommend Delores Casella's A World of Breads and her other bread and baking cookbooks. Diana

Much more than breads,

I own the 1966 edition & have made almost all of the recipes. None are hard to make, some just use baking power instead of yeast. All their recipes taste just like grandma used to make!

Breads for any occasion,
By A Customer
This review is from: A World of Breads (Hardcover)
This is my all time favorite bread book. Some of Dolores Casella's ideas reflect the time in which she wrote the book. I think the focus of food has shifted in the past 20 years to more healthful things but there is plenty in this book to cheer about. For the hand bread maker this might well be the only handbook they ever need. I love the fact that she has included lots of ethnic specialties but confess that the basic loaf breads are my favorites. Can't believe this is not still in print!!

Been in use since...,1976!!,

This review is from: A World of Breads. (Paperback)
Stuck at home during the latest 24" of snow here in DC, I had the urge to bake, something I don't often think of. Shelves of cookbooks, and I turned to our college favorite, Casella's. Several pages are stained brown from use, and turning to a flagged recipe was not disappointed in the results yet again. I see some of the reviews are relatively recent, 1999, but our use and this book go back to 1976 at Indiana University. It has always moved with us and never discarded, no matter how beat up.

I have used dozens of recipes from this book in the last 40 years and have never been disappointed. I wore out the hardback I bought in the late 60s and was very happy to find this one.
