4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game
This is a good poker game. It has a lot of variations of poker and would be a good learning tool for beginners or if your a veteran use it for practice. The AI isn't all that bad. In fact its quite good at times, but there are times when the computer has a full house or a very high hand and doesn't bid. Also I do think the hands dealt are realistic, I haven't...

1.0 out of 5 stars only play if you don't know anything about poker or are dyslexic
I said dyslexic because you probably would mistake this game for World Series Of Poker because this game could possibly hit the top on the list of the worst games of all time. The graphics suck and the AI is the worst of any game ever played. So if you are a person looking for any poker game better than this one get WSOP because its the best one I have ever played.

In fact its quite good at times, but there are times when the computer has a full house or a very high hand and doesn't bid. Also I do think the hands dealt are realistic, I haven't experienced any problems with all straights or high hands since i've been playing it and i've put a lot of time in on it. In fact sometimes I win hands with a jack high or smaller. All in All it is the best poker game I've ever played against strictly computer AI.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best $20 ante I've ever made, January 30, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: World Championship Poker (Xbox) (CD-ROM)
What a steal for $20. Even if you aren't a huge poker fan, you can have choice from several different games, with different options that you shouldn't feel to bad for dropping $20 on this game.

The graphics really are weak, however, just like a prior reviewer indicated: Who cares? You don't buy a poker game for the graphics. You buy it to play or learn poker. And this title will do both.

Over-customization of your character is a little strange but it does add to the uniqueness of the game. Ultimately, you purchase this game to play on Xbox Live with everyone else. I didn't have any problem figuring out how to join a game, or create one. There seems to be ample players eagerly waiting to join your game. Right now, Texas Hold Em seems to have the majority of players.

The real gripe with the game on Live are the players that kill the game when they lose. If they are hosting the game and they go bust, chances are they will leave the game and you will get booted from the game. Horrible! I played it 10 times today and was booted on 8 when the host lost and quit. Someone really needs to find a fix for this.

Other than that, the game is worth $20 any day of the week. Heck, that's the cost of a movie and some grub.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good FUN!, December 9, 2004

I thoroughly enjoy playing this game. The AI is fine, as you get better at the game you can pump it up to EXPERT. The dealing is totally accurate. I don't know what the last review meant, I very rarely get 3 of a kind. Play the tournaments and see how far you get. I would take the other review seriously if the player had finished 1st in all the tournaments, but I doubt it, I get my butt kicked in the tournaments right now. Overall the graphics are good, the online is awesome, the customization is great and the sound is OK.

this game is not the greatest poker game around and is not the worst either. there are some very nice promising games coming for the x-box, espn world series of poker is one of them, this game is great if you can't wait until august for the espn game, for under 20 bucks you can't beat it, the online games are the heart of this game, log on to x box live and you can play with other poker fans in the world, the AI is a little shaky at times, but most of the time it makes the right decisions, my children are too young to play the game correctly with me so this is my escape when I have no one to play with. so overall graphics are subpar, but that is to be expected, game play can be boring at times with little visual and audio interaction, but online is fun and I really think if you have to buy a poker game, this is a much better choice than bycicle casino, but if you are looking for a nicer presentation it might be wise to wait a little while longer.

The only reason to buy a poker title is to play on Live. If you don't have live, don't buy this. On live it is a little tricky to find a game, but after that annoyance it is a top notch title. Graphics are a little creepy, but what do you need great graphics on a poker game. Many people on Live are not great players, but it just makes it more fun to beat them, right?

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for a Pick up and Play Poker Game, June 8, 2005
By
Amazonian (Northeastern USA) - See all my reviews
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: World Championship Poker (Xbox) (CD-ROM)
I've been playing a lot of poker with my friends lately and have gotten drawn into the game, especially Hold 'Em. Unfortunately for me, once a week with my friends just isn't enough sometimes, so when I saw this game for the price of just a few buy-ins, I figured what the heck.

I'll admit that the graphics ain't pretty (and niether are most of my customized characters created in the game's incredibly deep character generator) but then, as most people have pointed out, beauty isn't that important in poker. What is important is providing the fun of playing poker with friends, gambling, bluffing, and feeling the adrenaline course through you as you wonder whether your opponent picked up the higher straight or if he's just messing with you.

In that category, the game easily lives up to the $20 tops that you'll pay for it. While not quite the same as with live people, it'll scratch the itch really well, whenever you want. It's true that the lowest AI setting really isn't too bright (they often call massive raises even with bottom pair, and occasionally even call all-in with absolutely nothing) but the higher levels can get really tricky, making them hard enough to read that things are fun.

Better even than the computer AI, however, is the fact that you can play against human opponents via Xbox Live, chatting, bluffing and taunting them with the headset as the decide whether or not to call your raise. Stats are tracked as well, and each character you create starts off with money to play with online.

Basically, if you've got a poker addiction and Xbox Live, this game is a no-brainer. Even without Live, I highly recommend it to anyone who has a little extra cash and not enough chances to play with friends.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not for serious players..., February 16, 2005

I received this game as a Christmas gift, and have had some fun playing it as a means to (a) pass the time, and (b) see lots of flops...however, I would not recommend it for anyone serious about improving their poker game. I consider the AI in this game ridiculous, because the bets that the various players make (or don't make) aren't in any way logical to those who understand tight, aggressive poker playing. Even an average player should be able to beat the toughest level of the highest value tournament within their first few tries. Honestly, if you're serious enough about poker that you're trying to understand the theory and the math behind it (i.e. those who are reading the numerous books available on the topic), I'd steer way clear of this game. If you're just looking to have some fun, then it's not that bad.

If you love poker video games this is the best one to get and the price is really good for it to. Sure the grafics are kind of bad but why do you need good grafics for a poker game. Plus the A.I. is really good they will trick you. This is the best poker game out there! Get it the price is really good. Only 19.99 at toysrus and other stores get it!
