Deee-Debut Is Tight!,
This review is from: World Clique (Audio CD)
Deee-Lite's intro to the pop and dance music scene is tight. This is a classic among many people, and for good reason. The album opens with the "Deee-Lite Theme" which is a funky and entertianing tribute to New York. "Good Beat," & "Power of Love," are some fun songs about dancing and loving, what Deee- was all about. "Smile On" and "Try Me On..." are very cool pop tunes that put a smile on any listener's face and are uplifintg. "What Is Love" is kind of dubby - but it's trancey and hyptnotic. Lady Kier's sexy French accent in the middle is very cute and classic for fans. "World Clique" The title-track of the album is a positive tune trying to bring the world together as one, it's also very inspiring. "E.S.P." may be one of their best songs. It's very trancey and mystifying, and there's, of course, an ode to their home town of NYC in it! "Groove Is In The Heart" - what can I say that hasn't already been said, I ask? "Who Was That?" is a cute and fun song about someone sneaking into Kier's house, and among other things, eating her peanut butter! It's really groovy and whacky. "Build The Bridge" & "Deep-Ending" are sort of the down point. The music is a little darker and the production isn't as good, but they are still very Deee, if you know what I mean. ;) In the end, Deee's debut is a classic and no one should be without it. It will make you feel good when you're feeling bad, and put a smile on your face, and nothing's better than that!

10 years later, WOW....,

I don't think I've heard this in about 8 years, & I had forgotten how much I loved this album! I used to listen to this ALL the time my freshman year of high school...on the bus to & from school, IN school when I wasn't supposed to...I was addicted. I've been digging through my old tapes from then, trying to figure out what to do with them (ie, junkpile), & had forgotten I had this, but I need to get the cd soon cuz "IIII like it..." (as track 4 suggests). I felt this album in 90/91 was WAAAY neglected. Sure, "Groove is in the Heart" got plenty of airplay & still does a little, but as an album, I hardly read anything about it, or noticed it in Billboard...course, we all know what that means anyway. This is a consistent album as far as its mood & quality. There's hardly any filler, cept maybe track 8. Also, considering I used to only hear this tape with my old tape player headphones, I didn't really hear the quality of the beats & basslines, cuz I was always just singing or mouthing along, even along to that french-sounding mumble in "What is Love". If yer nostalgic for GOOD old forgotten/neglected stuff that still sounds good today, then add this to yer collection. And I still luv that funky 70's disco feel to it... & you definitely can NOT sit still to it :) Fun stuff to dance to or sing in the shower or whatever your pleasure...GET IT!

one of the best things I've ever bought,
By A Customer
This review is from: World Clique (Audio CD)
This album blew me away in 1991, when I bought the cassette, and continues to grab my attention after I've updated my collection with the CD version. With an interesting blend of sampladelic sounds, hip-hop and R&B vocal stylings, Lady Miss Kier, Towa Tei and DJ Dmitry serve up one of the best albums I've ever bought. Every song has a different musical ideology attached to it. "Power of Love" is a memorable R&B-style tune. "Try Me On ... I'm Very You" is smooth. "Deep-Ending" has a great hook. "Who Was That?" is fun. "E.S.P." is electronic funk. And I haven't met anyone who doesn't like "What is Love?" Then there's one of my all-time favorites: "Groove is in the Heart" and those little Bootsy ad libs that just tip the song over to legendary memory status. Get this album, for God's sake, and enjoy the hell out of it. You'll even wear the CD out.

The Best of the Best of 90's Dance! Dee-groovy!!,

This cd is absolutely the best of the Deee-lite series, the one that started it all. With its fusion of modern Dance and Electronica, along with some Funk, this album is so rare and unique, that even after more than a decade, it still sounds great to me. I own "Infinity Within" and "Dewdrops in the Garden" and these are also excellent albums, but to me, I just seem to like this one the most. This band was way ahead of its time, and could probably explain why they didn't get much air play on the radio here in the U.S. But, if you want to experience Deee-lite first hand without having to purchase all three of their albums I recommend you buy The Very Best of Deee-lite cd. You will not regret it. ;)

My Shameless Confession,

I love the song "Groove is in the Heart."I love the video, I love the song...what can I say? Is it good? I dunno...but it's got a grabby hook and I can't turn it off. Besides, how cool is any video with a Bootsie cameo? So, I can wax poetic all day about the depth and breadth of the Stones' song writing...but when it call comes down to what really matters, music should be fun, right? This very silly album is a lot of fun. It's no Beggar's Banquet...but I digress.

I love this album. It's absolutely impossible to put it on and not dance and sing along. This is what sampling is all about.I love Lady Miss Keir with her raspberry flip, chunky platforms and dee-groovey vibe. The perfect album to scare away the mean reds.

Blast from the past...,

Great Disc! A friend of mine bought World Clique back in '91, and all I remembered of it were the classic dance tracks "Groove is in the heart" and "Power of Love". This month I decided to add some depth to my somewhat homogeneous pop/classic rock collection, and ordered the disk. What a pleasant surprise! The above songs were as good as I remembered, as were all the others. Most have a good, energetic beat. "Smile On" is a great mellow track. Overall, this is the kind of disc you could play at a party, and leave on all night!

Deee-Lite is extremely innovative and creative providing a new outlook to dance music. It's very hip and great to sing along to. The best tracks on the cd are "Try me on...I'm very you", "World Clique", "Good Beat", "Groove is in the heart", and "E.S.P.". These songs are refreshing and make you wanna bounce. If you're looking for a different wave of dance music that makes you wanna sing at the top of your lungs try this out! Deee-Lite is just the best, and this cd is definitely worth looking into. Don't forget about Dew Drops in the Garden, Sampadelic remixes, and the Infinity Within LPs. Those are a good dosage of Deee-Lite vibes for you there. And to those who do not think that World Clique is worth getting (SAM MARTIN) think of getting a life, and actually commenting on a cd that is in your realm of music. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Don't listen to him. Get it.....It's bubbiliciously fun! It's extremely creative and the best all-around cd! You'll love it!

How do you say deee-gorgeous? How do you say deee-groovy???,
By André Ming (Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: World Clique (Audio CD)
¨World Clique¨, the debut album and most original Deee-Lite record, is a pretty funny mixture of soul/funk, house and experimental electronic music. Although they claimed more attention for their retro-fashion style and only archived real success with the massive first smash hit, ¨Groove Is In The Heart¨, the band's signature, Deee-Lite kept seducing their fans with groovy songs and much fun. ¨Power Of Love¨, the fan favourite, features a ¨kistchig¨ early 80's-like synthethizer and makes everybody shake; Lady keer also asks for a ¨Good Beat¨ in the best possible way and jazzy opening track ¨Deee-Lite theme¨ just confirms they deserved classic place on pop music's history. In general, this is a great album, and the best possible preview of the changes who were gonna come on their last and more forgotten 2 albums.

The World is a Clique,
By A Customer
This review is from: World Clique (Audio CD)
World Clique was almost like listening to a new album all over again. I bought the tape back in '91 but the only to listen to 'Deee Lite', 'Good Beat', 'Power of Love' and 'Who Was That'. It was always just those four songs and then I'd throw it back into my messy tape drawer. But up until a few months ago I dug World Clique up one more time and decided to listen to it in it's entiredy (sp?). Man this really is a good album I don't care what nobody says. My all time favorite song is 'Good Beat' but songs like 'ESP', 'What is Love', 'Smile on' and 'World Clique' are so delicious and fun. Now I often find myself listening to World Clique in my car and on my lunch breaks. This really ahead of it's time. Everytime I listen to this I think of artists like Moby, Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk for some reason. I just love Lady Miss Kier Kirby's sexy in all the right places voice. She has that somewhat deep, almost whispery voice that I like. It's a shame that this album isn't that much talked about like a lot of commercialized '90s albums are. This a classic. It's not just about 'Groove is in the Heart'.
