Forgotten 80's New Wave Dance Hit,
By
This review is from: World Destruction (Audio CD)
I love this song, and remember dancing to it a lot- circa 1985.
(yes, I am over 13!) I'm sort of surprised that this single didn't make it on to any 80's New Wave compilations- too bad too. The only place I have heard it in the last 10 years in at the end of a Sopranos episode- to great effect. Should have saved the vinyl! God only knows where that disc is now!!! Please someone save this gem from obscurity by releasing it on a PIL comp. or something! I wouldn't pay $40 bucks for it- but maybe $10- which is still a heck of a lot to pay for one song if you think about it! This song should be in every 80's DJ's portfolio- but instead it seems out of circulation for the time being. -DJ Esperanto (stuck in) Gainesville, FL

This IS a good song, but if you must have it, just buy the DVD "One Pound Notes" under Lydon's name and save money. Dats all I'm sayin'.

I had forgotten about this song until I recently heard it while watching an episode of the Sopranos (they played it at the end). Highly listened and danced to in the 80's by my college roommate and me. I'm shocked to see how much the single is going for but not surprised. Long live Johnny Rotten.

Speak About Destruction!,

I remember when this came out in the 80's...the very strange pairing of Afrika Bambaataa and John Lydon was in itself enough to warrant a look.
This apocalyptic view of the world has suddenly come back around, considering the situation we find ourselves in. Of course, today lyrics like "The KGB is smarter than you think" might not fit with those who have forgotten their history (Mr. Putin, are you listening?), but the message was conveyed in its urgency by Bambaataa and Lydon. There's nothing too terribly unique about the music, but it's hard and fast enough to fit with the frenetic pace of what was brought to it. One of those cult singles, esp. considering the prices being demanded for it.

One of my Favorite Dance Tracks from the 80's....,
By
This review is from: World Destruction (Audio CD)
i remember going to Wave Waikiki and Phaze in the mid 80's and dancing to this track along with tracks from The Cult, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order.
Here in Hawaii, i found the CD Single (the smaller sized disc) a local Hawaii shop called Jelly's...but that was in the early 90's! it is one of my prized cds in my collection. hopefully it becomes available again for you people who missed it the last time it came out. as for the song, it makes you move and provides social commentary on the state of the world back then...and now! |
