The drum samples used to create this album are not correct for the regions they state to come from. I have played West African percussion, and Samba/Batucada for over 12 years, and the tracks on this album that say they are djembe/west african or samba, are definitely not. The Surdo beat is incorrect in Samba, the djembe rhythms are wrong and the djembes tuned way lower than actual. This appears to be drum circle hippies interpretations of world rhythms rather than the actual thing (which is cool if that is the intention, as the beats are still cool - just not authentic).

Like the other guy said, this stuff is completely unfaithful to the regions they are trying to emulate. Not bad pieces mind you (hence the 3 star) but their titles are VERY misleading.

This CD is, as others have said, is inauthentic, misrepresenting, and misleading. As a degreed percussionist who has extensively studied the music of many of these cultures, it is a disgrace to the music and cultures that are attempting to be represented. Not to mention that each track sounds the same. The drums being used are the same on each track as well, with no distinction between West African instruments, Japanese Taiko instruments, Brazilian Samba instruments, Indian instruments, etc. Do not waste your time and money on this ill-researched and poorly performed mashup of inaccurate meandering.

I bought this sample to practice a particular form of qi gong and it is perfect for that. It has quite a bit of variety, so I could pick out my favorites to combine and I find it quite effective and enjoyable for the movements I am practicing. I don't think I would like it much for just listening or working, as a little goes a long way, in my opinion.
