5.0 out of 5 stars Very Surprised By This Album
Marduk has never been a personal favorite of mine, granted some of their eary work (with vocalist Andreas Axelsson) was excellent, but since then they have yet to impress me, but their latest album, 'World Funeral' caught me quite off guard. 3.0 out of 5 stars MARDUK NOT AS USUAL !!!

This is a cd that left me with mixed emotions. The first one featuring drummer Frederik Anderssen's replacement, serbian Emil Dragutinovic, who doesn't dissapoint in the skins department.

It starts out with 2 instant live classics like the paint-peeling ¨With Satan And Victorious Weapons¨ and the slower, crunchier ¨Bleached Bones¨ with its 7-string...

4.0 out of 5 stars Innovative and refreshing Black Metal !, May 12, 2004

World Funeral is a very good all around BM album. These guys have been around a while and I like the changes they have made in their music. If every album sounded like Panzer and was played at the speed of light, than Marduk would become very boring. The lyrics on this album are sinister and well thought out. I feel like Marduk put some time and thought into this release. The variation in the pace and structure of this album is refreshing to here. Some tracks are blistering fast, while others more slow and haunting. After a few listens, I'm sure anyone with a passion for Dark music will embrace this album. Read the lyrics along with songs!

Marduk has never been a personal favorite of mine, granted some of their eary work (with vocalist Andreas Axelsson) was excellent, but since then they have yet to impress me, but their latest album, 'World Funeral' caught me quite off guard. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect from this now legendary quartet, but I was pleasently surprised. The album is a basic collection of all that the band has done, flawlessly pieced together. Vocally, Legion is perfect, this is the best he has ever been, almost as good as Axelsson. Musically, it is great, Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson os at the top of his game, the riffs and how the guitar textures the sound is unbelievable. B. War's bass hasn't sounded this good since 'Those of the Unlight'. Long time drummer Fredrik Andersson's replacement Emil Dragutinovic does a fabulous job. The production is strange, it is both clean, yet still giving a very raw aura, very well done. Another thing that was done well on this record was the more melodic / ambient overtones (ala Agalloch and Negura Bunget), but still keeps the ultra heavy black metal sound. Standout tracks include the brutal black metal romp "Bloodletting", the extremity of "Hearse", and the beauty of the heaviness of "To the Death's Head True" (my personal favorite track). Marduk's 'World Funeral' is easily one of the years best black metal records, Marduk's best since 'Those of the Unlight'!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marduks Newest Realease, And It Rules!, July 27, 2003
This review is from: World Funeral (Audio CD)
Well, marduk has done it again. They made yet another awesome evil cd. Every song is brutal and evil. The lyrics are pretty sick and evil. Marduk dont hold anything back in their lyrics, they jut say whatever they want and thats very cool. It starts out with an audio clip and then breaks into a fast brutal song titled With Satan And Victorious Weapons then after that is my favorite song on the cd...Bleached Bones!!!!! If you like black metal or any other releases from Marduk, BUY THIS NOW!!!!

After listening to World Funeral, I'm still amazed at the musical genius of Marduk. Every song is done with brutal precision. One of the tracks, "Bleached Bones", reminds me of a Slayer song. There are no weak tracks on this album. They have really become more focused and the viciousness of Legion's are better than ever. Fans of Black/Death metal will eat this album up. Hail Marduk!

World Funeral put Marduk over the top, as one of the top Blackmetal bands in the world. The songs range from Fast to slow and Legions vocals are brilliantly done. This is their best work since Nightwing,World Funeral eclipses that album. If you like fast, Blackmetal, get this today.

I don't see why this album doesn't get more recognition than it deserves because this album is freakin awesome. This is one of the best Black Metal albums out there. This cd is very brutal and has great melodic memorable riffs that make you proud to be a Metal fan. With fast pounding tracks like Hearse, With Satan And Vitorious Weapons and the title track to the slow crunching riffs of To The Death's Head True and Bleached Bones any Metal fan will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look Out COF Fans, Here Comes TRUE Black Metal, April 17, 2005
This review is from: World Funeral (Audio CD)
World Funeral is extreme, bitter, cold, raw, grim and all the qualities that black metal should be. The fact that this record is fairly new and sounds so authentic and true is awesome. Cradle of Filth are considered the "evil" and new true black metal band, I THINK NOT!!! Marduk makes those guys look like Def Leppard or somthing. Buy World Funeral now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Marduk has ever released!, April 2, 2003

Marduk have gained a very strong following since their inception back in 1990. In that time they have put out album after album of very quality material, the best being Heaven Shall Burn and Nightwing. With this one, I believe it eclipses both of those by a mile. This album shows why they have gained that strong following. Brutal guitars, incessant blast beats, demonic sounding vocals(very greatly done btw), and a killer atmosphere. If you like very brutal keyboard-less black metal, then this album will be in your cd player all the time. I very strongly recommend this album to any black metal fan. Also, if you like keyboard black metal, pick up the new Emperor and Cradle of Filth, both of which are phenominal. Hail Marduk!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine Work of Black Metal, August 14, 2004

After hearing Panzer Division Marduk I was impressed by the speed of this Swedish group, but I had doubts to their overall artistic ability. Those doubts were erased by this album.
I recommend World Funeral to almost any fan of black metal. Here there are songs with terrifying speed but also menacingly slow ones. Legion's vocals are very vile and dark, as black metal should be. The guitars also get a thumbs up for impressive riffing and tremolo picking. The subjects contained in this work are also very dark and evil, with necro-lore and anti-christian hatred spread throughout. There is nothing lacking here!

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW, August 3, 2004
This review is from: World Funeral (Audio CD)
I must say...I expected to hear nothing but 100 mph music here...not the case. The melody is great and I must disagree with people who say the slow songs mixed in with the fast ones throw it off...it just makes the cd that much more diverse. I love it, and if you like Marduk you will, too.
