Book Description

Employment & Social Affairs May 15, 2000
The second edition of this concise reference book was prepared by 106 authors from 21 countries and covers the neuro-oncological literature until January 2000. Diagnostic criteria, pathological features and associated genetic alterations are described in a strictly disease-oriented manner. Sections on more than 70 neoplasms and their variants include ICD-O codes, incidence, age and sex distribution, location, clinical signs and symptoms, pathology, genetics and predictive factors. New disease entities include the chordoid glioma of the third ventricle and the cerebellar liponeurocytoma. Inherited tumor syndromes involving the nervous system are dealt with in a separate chapter, combining diagnostic criteria, pathology and genetics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complete description of nervous system tumors, August 5, 2001

This review is from: World Health Organization Classification of Tumours: Pathology and Genetics: Tumours of the Nervous System (Paperback)
This book covers the pathology and genetics of nervous system tumors in a very clear and organized manner. It is a good reference book both for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis of different NS neoplasms as well as having a concise description of grading, name synonyms, histopathology and clinical signs. Any pathologists knows how great the WHO books are...I just wanted to inform prospective buyers that a new edition was just published and is available on the WHO website.

My credit card was billed, but I never received the book. When I contacted Amazon, I was told that Amazon's staff could not be of assistance other than begrudging and quite insincere apologies. When I contacted the vendor, the first thing they did was suggest I provided the wrong address. The vendor elected not to use First Class USPS, but used "Media Mail." In any event, I don't yet have the book and the vendor, The Book Community, stands out as the worst vendor I have used through Amazon, and, finally, Amazon's impotence once a vendor interlopes has become clear. I still need the book and Amazon's system simply is not as good as it is touted. VMR
