4.0 out of 5 stars The '90s are back with a vengeance on my PS3!
I was one of those oddballs who gleefully walked past the Street Fighter machines, in search of the bright red NeoGeo cabinets, back in my arcade days.

On pure hope, I picked this up for my PS3 (I don't have a PS2), and as luck would have it, the game runs exactly as I had hoped.

As far as the games go... well... you'd have to have a special...

I really love this collection. But I can view it from the perspective of when these games were top of the line products in the arcade (unfortunately has closed down by now) a block from my home. If you don't have found memories, I don't know how you could like this game since today's products clearly beat out these old "masterpieces." I remember not having enough quarters and wanting to play World Heroes 1 death match mode one more time. I remember all the characters... I'm obviously biased and this is my favorite collection. Round One FIGHT!!!!

As far as the games go... well... you'd have to have a special place in your heart for World Heroes to really enjoy this disc. The graphics are crude (though arcade faithful, right up to the Neo Geo boot screens!), and although you can access a menu that shows every character's special moves, they're probably going to be a bit confusing to anyone who didn't play this in the arcade.

That all said, if you ever enjoyed even one of the World Heroes games, buying this anthology will be money well spent.

This review is from: World Heroes Anthology (Video Game)
This is a great collection for any fighting game fan out there to own.
After playing a couple of the original gamse (World Heroes and World Heroes 2) when they were originally released, it's nice to have the entire series on one disk.

2.0 out of 5 stars you know back in the day, April 13, 2009

back in 1994 i bought world heros 2 for my snes.i still have it in the closet some where.back in 1994 i would have given world heros 2 4 stars.the death match and see saw life bar was great and even the fact that you could mask the see saw life bar was even better.masking would cover the bar up so you just fought to the finish having no idea of you life gauge.but now in 2009 you can only see this game for what it really was and that was a knock off of the great games of that era.in the 90`s this was one of the better knock offs of street fighter.today it is barely playable.great games are always great.street fighter, samurai showdown, for others king of fighters are games you can still play and enjoy as much today as you did back then.i`ll keep world heros anthology cause it gives me a back in the day feeling, plus i won`t get much in traded in value.unless you were a huge fan who thought it was the best fighting game out,it`s pretty hard to recommend.samurai showdown anthology is the way to go.that game is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you remember "Arcades?", May 17, 2008

Strangely, I don't recall some of these World Heroes games being this difficult. Thankfully, you can change the difficulty on this port! You can also change the color on your character, the music, and practice those hard to perform combos in practice mode. I'm not a big World Heroes fan, but I love SNK NeoGeo! Any true fan will need to have this title in their library.

I've played "World Heroes" series at the arcade. And burned many quarters to reach the end of each version with two or three of my most favorite charaters, Now in the present I no lorger have to pay, and now I could see every characters ending. The game appears to be ARCADE PERFECT ports of each game which I REALLY WANT out of these old school compiliations. Controls alittle off because it's setup is based on the PS2 dualshock controller. But with practice It won't be that much of an issue. All SNK can do for all their SNK ports is design a 4 button w joystick pad and sell it retail if we all really want the old arcade flavor, but it's wishful thinking. Bottom line, For old school arcade gaming collectors ONLY!! New school gamers*(post PSOne, Saturn, SNES) wouldn't even know how to appreciate old gems like these.

I bought this game because it brought back memories when I used to play it with my cousin on the SNES. It has good overall characters, fun to play. I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great collection, despite a misleading claim on the box, March 1, 2011

I have been a fan of fighting games for a long time --- although they seem to have pretty much fallen out of style, at least compared to how popular they once were --- and this is a great collection. I had played World Heroes 2 on the Super NES, but I never owned any version of it until I got this collection, and I had never played any versions of the other three games. They all have shades of Street Fighter II about them, but how many fighting games don't? The original World Heroes is very limited, so it isn't as fun as the other WH games, but they are all good, and feature some neat characters. While most of the characters are SF2-esque in their appearances and/or their move-sets, Janne seems more like Charlotte from the Samurai Showdown games (which are also by SNK). My personal favorite is Mudman, because he's so wacky. If you enjoy fighting games, I recommend this collection for you. I only have one major complaint, and it doesn't have to do with the games themselves so much as it has to do with the packaging. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this (I only read one review for the game), but on the back of the game box, there is something that is VERY misleading (unless I've missed something): It says, "Witness the evolution of 56 characters across 4 games in SNK's greatest fighting game series!" "56 characters"?? It seems that SNK pulled a major bit of chicanery here. Apparently, they're counting EACH character's appearance in EACH game as an appearance of a separate character. For example, they're counting Hanzo as FOUR characters because he's in each of the games. How cheap is that?! This may technically not be false advertising, but it's still VERY deceptive, unless there are a lot of locked characters that I don't know about (and I'm not aware of any). Despite this, I give this collection four stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars 18 Total characters NOT 56, November 22, 2010

This review is from: World Heroes Anthology (Video Game)
To me double, triple, & quadruple counting the same characters that are on all 4 games etc is borderline false advertising. That said here are the characters that are in it.

The following are on World Heroes I:
Hanzo (think Ryu)
Fuuma (think Ken)
Dragon (think Bruce Lee/Fee Long)
Janne (Fencer)
Erik the Viking
Muscle Power (basically Hulk Hogan)
Brocken (think mechanical Bison)
Rasputin

In addition to the above, the following are on World Heroes II:
Captain Kidd (Pirate)
Ryoko (think Sakura/Yuri Sakazaki)
Mudman
J Max (Football player)
Shura (Mui Tai/think Joe Higashi)
J Carn (Mongolian I think)

In addition to the above, the following are in World Heroes Jet:
Jack
Ryofu

In addition to the above, the following are in World Heroes Perfect:
Gokuu
Neo Dio

I liked the 1st two way back when they came out but after putting it in for a brief test I can say it hasn't aged well. NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (40 chars) & KOF 11 (47 chars) are way better for cheap. They are both solid/fun fighting games. Some of the World Heroes are even featured on NeoGeo Battle Coliseum. That's partly why I got nostalgic for this again.

4.0 out of 5 stars World Heroes and beyond (The other games included beside the original), May 31, 2010

This review is from: World Heroes Anthology (Video Game)
Although I kicked myself when I found this game at a cheaper price in stores, I have practiced on this one so I am somewhat good at it. But, it is not easy to beat, even on the easiest level of difficulty I still had a hard time, particulary with Mudman on WH2. I still enjoy the game, but I can't go 5-star all the way due to some difficult fights on certain games even on the easiest level of difficulty
