This review is from: World History: A Concise Thematic Analysis(Vol. 2) (Paperback)
A classic textbook example of Said's Orientalism
From: Wiki "subtle and persistent Eurocentric prejudice ... implicit justification for Europe and the US' colonial and imperial ambitions ... perceptions suspect, and cannot be taken at face value. Seemingly outwardly objective but permeated with a bias . Difficult to choke down even the first chapter of this required text book for HCC HIST 152. From: Problems of Bias in History Textbooks "History book distorts Indian history by omitting glorious events in the ancient history and culture and doesn't deserve reputation as impartial because it summarizes and interprets implicitly Euro-centric conceit. Students cannot learn the meaning of our democratic ideals by studying textbooks that underemphasize the need for justice and equality or by memorizing historical events that portray injustices." |
